Ceder and Massachusetts in Cambridge. Is it a good neighborhood?

Hi,

I'm planning on renting an apartment on Ceder and Massachusetts for 5 nights. How's the neighborhood there?

Thanks.

I think you meant CedAr Street? It's about 1/2 mile West of Davis Sq T station. Should be a safe area as far as murder & violence goes.

You'll be fine there generally, especially during daylight hours. Would avoid walking much distance southwest of Massachusetts Avenue (such as down Cedar or Harvey Streets) at night between there and Rt.2/Alewife T-Station/Russell Field Park.

If you're using public transportation to get to this intersection, would suggest either taking the #77 Arlington Heights bus up from Harvard Square (it runs down Massachusetts Avenue and stops close by this intersection) or getting off at the Davis Square subway stop and walking first down Dover Street or Day Street to where they end at Massachusetts Avenue, then taking a right onto Massachusetts Avenue and walking up to the Cedar Street intersection. During daylight hours, it's also fine to walk from the Davis Square T-stop down the bike path directly to Massachusetts Avenue.

Here's the schedule (with interactive bus route map) of #77. There is a stop right at intersection of Mass Ave & Cedar Street.
http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_ma...utes/?route=77

Depending on how much public transport you'll use, you may benefit from getting the 7-day T pass for $15. If you're here for 5 days, it comes out to $3 per day.

Otherwise,
Cash fare for bus is $1.50; $1.25 if you use a pre-loaded Charlie Card.

Cash fare for subway is $2; $1.70 if you use Charlie Card.
