Caves in Utah / Somewhere in SW?
Hello, I'm sort of new to the site still, but I have a question I was hoping someone might be able to answer. I happen to really like caves, I've been to a couple in California (one at Kings canyon and one somewhere up north), and am curious about any interesting ones that may exist in the southwest.
When I was really young, my family went on a road trip, and we took a route through Arizona/Utah/Colorado/Wyoming. Somewhere on this trip we went to a cave that I remember being unbelievably awesome, but I can't remember where it is. I'd be interested in seeing any other caves/caverns that might exist in the southwest area. Does anyone have any ideas? |
I love Lehman Cave in Great Basin National Park in Nevada near the southern Utah border. It is really beautiful.

It was probably Carlsbad Caverns that you went to although it's on the New Mexico/Texas border.
There is at least one beautiful cave in Utah and it's right outside Salt Lake City - Timpanogos Cave. http://www.nps.gov/tica/ |
Hi Archer,
Yes, Timpanogas Cave in American Fork Canyon is a real gem. Very popular, need to get tour tickets in advance. Take a jacket and drinking water. It's a steep hike up and really COLD inside! |
Great Basin National Park in Nevada, not too distant from the Utah border, has a great cave tour. Least visited National Park, I think, so few crowds, and amazing views as it is a vertical park. I think it is off Hwy 50.

The Kartchner Cavern State Park in Arizona opened in 1988. I've never been, but I hear it's really good.

Excellent, thanks for all the help, I wrote each of these down and will check out the websites before I leave. Hopefully I'll get a chance to see a couple. Thanks again!
