What's Ethel Merman doing these days on Broadway? And how about Mary Martin?

cmcfong Sep 8th, 2005 10:40 AM

Just curious. I posted a thread suggesting folks who were upset with the nasty threads click only on the travel threads. I thought I worded it rather cheerfully explaining that I personally never click on threads about Chinese restaurants in Detroit. Two responses came in and the thread was pulled within about three or four minutes. Being a rather stubborn sort, I reposted with a slightly less flip message but the same meaning. It was pulled in less than a minute. Now I notice that the thread I put up on vet resources for evacuees to NC was pulled too. What's up with this and should I feel personally slighted?

cmc: I cut and pasted the thread and emailed to friends in NC.

I got this from the editors

"We've been trying to clean up the forums this afternoon after numerous
complaints that travel-related threads weren't being seen because of
the glut of negative Katrina threads. Thanks for understanding.

Oh, that's a relief, I thought maybe there had been a formal protest by the Detroit Chinese Society.

Ethel is pushing up roses and daffodils for you and for meeeeeee.......:-D

I could go for seeing Sweeney Todd.

Of course, it depends on the casting, particularly of Judge Turpin and Beadle Bamford.

I can think of 2 people who have inadvertently filled those roles quite well and need a nice close shave about now!

Thank you, GoTravel, for a bit of fresh air in the midst of the trauma! It was much needed!!

Watched Birdcage last night on E! and all I could think of was how good Nathan Lane was in The Producers.

ncgrrl Sep 9th, 2005 06:22 AM

Last night I saw an ad on tv for the upcoming season of Broadway Series South (touring shows) and one was Annie. Had a good laugh on that one.

lincasanova Sep 9th, 2005 07:17 AM

is nathan lane still in the producers? if not, who is or wehre can i always find out the names of the actors?

thanks.

Citylghts Sep 9th, 2005 07:39 AM

Playbill.com has current listings for everything on Broadway,Off-Broadway and on tour.

GoTravel Sep 9th, 2005 08:01 AM

lincasanova, last I heard Nathan Lane is busy filming the film version of The Producers with Matthew Broderick. I wonder if the chemistry between them will transfer to the big screen?

Jean_Valjean Sep 9th, 2005 09:08 AM

How about The Fantasticks! That one should've run longer... NYC needs a 'Mousetrap' kinda play...

BTW, interestingly enough, Sweeny Todd is being revived. It starts October 3rd at the Eugene O'Neill theater on 49th.

llrpurch Sep 9th, 2005 09:41 AM

Jean, how cool is THAT! And that's my BD too!
Wonder who's doing the Mrs. Lovett roll? Saw it in 79' with Angela Landsbury and Len Cariou (is that spelled right?) and still listen to that cast album to this day. Awesome.

Also, beginning October 4, Lane and Broderick are teaming up to star in a revival of The Odd Couple. The cast will also include Brad Garrett as Murray and Olivia d'Abo.

Patrick Sep 9th, 2005 11:25 AM

Patti LuPone will be playing the Mrs. Lovett role in the Sweeney Todd revival.

Regarding the revival of The Odd Couple:

"The cast will also include Brad Garrett as Murray and Olivia d'Abo."

That's interesting that Brad Garrett gets to play two roles, but I don't remember a character named Olivia d'Abo. LOL

llrpurch Sep 9th, 2005 05:54 PM

Patrick, Patti Lapone is incredible. She'll do the role justice and more.

Justice...hum...Mrs. Lovett and justice...?
Guess I should emphasize "more" instead.
"More PIES??"

Thanks for the casting info!

The upcoming production of Sweeney Todd is not a simple revival. It's a recreation of a recent London production, with only nine performers in the cast. And, each one will play a musical instrument. I believe Patti Lupone will be on the tuba! The show costars recent Tony winner Michael Cerveris (sp?) in the title role.
