CATHEDRAL HILL HOTEL-SF

I've booked the Cathedral Hill Hotel on Van Ness
in San Francisco (it's listed as a 3*)
using Pricline and was wondering if anyone has stayed
there and what is your opinion?

The area is fine, buses run often along Van Ness, never stayed there but took a bus tour - Parlor car tours have an office there, so if you want to take a tour the pick-up would be at your door. Transportation-wise this hotel is very convenient. And it's not on a hill, the area is flat, if this is a concern.

Hi, lovett!

Van Ness is an OK location. It depends on what you want to do. You will be located sort of midway between the two areas where most hotels (and tourists) will be located, i.e., Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square. A lot of business conferences take place at the hotels along Van Ness, so if your purpose is business, then the Cathedral Hill HOtel is fine. Otherwise, you will be walking quite a lot to the other attractions. Don't want to give you the wrong idea, there is lots of night life along Van Ness as well. Lots of good restaurants, like the House of Prime Rib and Harris Ranch Restaurant, both wonderful places for BEEF (naturally!).

Welcome to California!

3* is very generous for this hotel. I would have guessed 2* at the most.

I would rate it along the lines of a typical Holiday Inn/ kinda nice in places, kinda run-down in places.

This hotel has struggled over the years as it is not considered a great central location for tourists.

If you stay there, there's a great place to eat just across the street. One visit to Tommy's Joynt and you'll remember it forever. For a great steakhouse, Ruth's Chris is just up Van Ness a couple of blocks.
