casino's in new york
Taking my parents to new york in October, staying in Crowne Plaza Times Sq.Want to know if there are any casino's nearby as he has always wanted to go to one.thanks

Gambling is not legal in New York, except buying lottery tickets and OTB. There's some kind of floating casino on a party boat that leaves from Brooklyn but I think they shut that down.

True, but there are also day trip busses to both Connecticutt casinos and Atlantic City. There is also the Indian run facility in upstate NY that might be an overnight excursion.

tony- The Mohegan Sun in CT is the closest to NYC. Its not the Atlantic City experience but the casino is very nice. It won all sorts of interior designs awards. (Ive also won $$ a few times, so it helps me put it in a better light!) There are tour buses that leave from NYC Port Authority quite frequently to AC, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods.

You can take a bus to Atlantic City (about 10 minutes further than the Indian casinos in CT, but AC offers a better "casino experience" and more frequent service). Busses to AC leave from the Port Authrority (near Times Square on 42nd St and 8th Ave) and the trip is about 2 hours 15 minutes.

The cost is aprrox. $20-$28, but depending upon which casino you go to, you get back cash ($7-$15) and perhaps a food credit ($5-$8) as well... so it's a fairly inexpensive day trip.

You can get the schedule here: http://www.academybus.com/Casino/portauthority/port_authority_to_atlantic_city.htm

Tip: on return trip i would get to the pick up area 30 minutes before departure, as the busses can often get crowded.
