Casinos in Las Vegas
 

Hello out there!
I would like to know if anyone can suggest what they think are the best casinos to visit in Vegas . Can anyone suggest one or two casinos that are set up for the average non serious gambler? I've heard that many of the casinos are particularly geared for highrollers or serious gamblers. I'm spending two days in Vegas in July and want to use my time wisely. Has anyone been to see the stage show EFX? If so is it worth seeing? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi Glen, I just posted messages at 2 others for Vegas info. When I go with adults, I like to stay downtown because the kids aren't there. The Four Queens or Golden Nugget would be my choice. Very small casinos and you can walk out one door and into another... for the recreational gambler and "locals" atmosphere. Nothing to "see" though. When I'm with kids I stay at the Tropicana - very nice rooms, beautiful pools in garden setting/jacuzzi/etc. The kids can go across the walkway to Excalibur (the whole bottom floor is kids games), and over to MGM Grand for the biggest indoor amusement park. For just adults, I'd suggest going over and seeing the new New York, New York (my boss stayed there and loved the rooms). Also heard the Luxor rooms are nice, and the Imperial Palace is smack in the center of the strip, so good location. PLENTY of transportation/buses/trams/etc. for leave your car in the garage! EFX is a great show - very "Hollywood" and kind of campy, but Michael Crawford is amazing in any setting. Oh, and plan on 100 degree plus weather!

Unfortunately, Michael Crawford is no longer playing in EFX. He's been replaced by David Cassidy (Keith in "The Partridge Family". Unless you really like him, don't go see the show, because I really don't think anyone but Michael Crawford can pull off the role of the Effects Master. I saw it with Michael Crawford and I can't even begin to picture Keith Partridge as the Effects Master. Yuk.

I did not think much of EFX - If I saw only one show it would be Sigfield & Roy which is terrific.

I would not choose a downtown Hotel, they are very far from the strip, rather old.

I recommend the Hard Rock with its "sand beach"pool complete with underwater rock music, health club and a small friendly casino.

Ditto on Downtown Vegas! The minimums are low and theres always open tables. If you stay Downtown, try the Golden Nugget. Totally renovated, it is equally as nice as most of the newer strip hotels. We just got back from staying on the strip for the first time in 3 years, now I know why we only stay downtown! Too many people & strollers. We stayed at the Monte Carlo. By far the worst place we've ever stayed! The NY NY is really nice though, good food court. There is a little casino next to Circus Circus called Slots-O-Fun. This is usually our first stop on the strip. Low minimums, loose slots, plenty of bottled beer and a 1 Pound Hot Dog!(that should be seen and not eaten)

I would recommend the Maxim Hotel on Flamingo to stay in and to gamble. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and the rates are very reasonable. It is in a great location, just across the street from Bally's where you can get the monorail to MGM and around the corner from Caesar's. It seems to be more aimed at the average gambler rather than the high roller.

Some of the casinos that I like best, as an average gambler are Silver City(completely non-smoking) -- it is across from the Stardust, O'Shea's -- next to the Flamingo Hotel -- both of those are not attached to a
big hotel complex(although they may be run by a hotel company). I also like the Westward Ho casino -- the cater to the non-highrollers. Bourbon Street casino is also a good place to gamble at, if you can get a seat.
Imperial Palace casino is large & has tables & games for all the different levels of play. I have recently started going more to the Desert Inn casino. During the day it is not as high priced as in the evening & it is
a nice setting. My favorite places downtown are the Golden Nugget which again caters to all different levels, & the same for the Union Plaza. You can ask 10 different people where to go & you will get 10 different answers.
You will have to discover your own favorites. When you walk into a place & gamble for a few minutes, you can usually get the feeling of this is either a place that you just come to see what the casino is like, or this is
a place you want to gamble in.

Definitely downtown is the place to gamble. With
the new Fremont Street Experience, the Casinos are
all trying to get you into the door. We played
and won at a little, not fancy casino the Las
Vegas Club. It offers, in our opinion, the
best odds in the players favour with the Schmingle
deck. You should get the rules, it is hard to
get used to at first. They have a real cute brochure to help you along. We ended up playing
there all week and if you know basic blackjack rules
then you can clean house!
