Cascades planning

Hello - Looking to visit North Cascades NP in mid-June 2026 for a few days in connection with other travel to the Seattle area. My friend and I like to hike but do NOT camp. So we would need day hikes (probably up to 12 miles/day) from the perimeter, ideally on the south/west side closer to Seattle. Any suggestions where to start? I have skimmed other posts and the Fodor’s list of sites, but having trouble getting a big picture view of how to approach. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Mid-June is almost certainly too early for many hikes in higher country in the North Cascades. Snow can still be quite deep, and June can still be rainy or snowy throughout the Cascades. It's still too early to say what conditions are likely to be in June, but if it was me I'd have some alternative plans lined up. Use the Washington Trail Association's website for more up-to-date information.

If you aren't going to camp, where are you going to stay? I've enjoyed Winthrop and Mazama and being on the Methow river, but we were camping and not actually within the official national park.

Welcome!
:-)

I'd naybe re-think your plans. Gardyloo is correct inn that June is not the best time of year for the North Cascades. Wet or snow (or both) are your most likely conditions.

glad I checked here before spending too much time. It’s June!! We are not really technical hikers so lots of snow would be dangerous, if we could even get close. Thanks.

thanks. I think Winthrop was one that caught my eye. My understanding was there is no lodging inside the park so the plan was stay in a town nearby, drive to a trailhead and do a day hike. Back to the drawing board!

Since the North Casades are likelo be snow-packed, what about trying Olympic National Park? https://www.npca.org/articles/2747-a...hoCNjoQAvD_BwE
