Carry-on bag requirements - Delta vs US Air

Thank you Suze and all.

I just called them because DELTA's standard carry on size is different than the rest of the airlines. Delta requires 22 x 14 x 9. Other airlines have 11 x 14 x 26. I am going to err on the side of caution, and since my carry-on must have wheels, I am hoping I will find a bag at the store that fits the 22 x 14 x 9 dimensions.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the repeat.

Are you sure? I never heard of a 26" being allowed as carry-on. 26" is a full sized suitcase!

I agree with Suzw. 26" is a full size case, not a carry on.

Are you buying a new suitcase?

I ask because some airlines count the handles, wheels, etc. in their measurement. So to be under 22" you might actually be purchasing a 19-20" roller.

USAirways section on Carryons actually says 26 inches, as Amy reported:

That's amazing. A 26" suitcase surely would not fit in the "tester" at the gate, nor can I imagine there being room in the overhead bin for it.

WHAT!!!! Really 26"... WOW!

Carry-on baggage
Size requirements
Up to 51 in/129 cm (11 x 14 x 26 in or 28 x 35 x 66 cm)

The maximum size carry-on bag for most airlines is 45 linear inches (the total of the height, width, and depth of the bag). Anything larger should be checked.

Absolutely a 26" is a full sized suitcase - used to be call a week's case I believe, when people traveled with clothes for all occasions.

In the US a carry-on is 22" - in europe it's 20" - and that includes the wheels.

Thanks to all!!!! :-)

My problem is that since I will be flying Delta back home, they require it be 9 inches instead of 11, therefore, I will have to go with the smaller carry on that Delta requires so that I will not have to gate check it at the last minute. :-0

Continental is 51 linear inches, as long as it can fit in the overhead or under the seat in front of you.

So, technically you can bring something that's 49" x 1" x 1".
