Carmel CA lodging
We're headed to Northern California for 2 weeks in September for a mix of family visit on the peninsula, nature (Yosemite), and quiet get away for 2.
Looking for hotel/inn recommendations in Carmel for a few week nights when we arrive. Desired budget is around $300/night, but can do up to $400. Any suggestions from our Northern California Fodors experts? |
September is very high season - I would have recommended the Hyatt Carmel Highlands but I'm sure it would be over the budget.
I'd maybe look in Pacific Grove. |
We loved the Carriage House in Carmel. Easy to walk everywhere from that location.
|
I would bet the Carriage House is full -- but it does depend on your specific dates. It is a very popular property - and it is a busy time.
September is when Californians go to the coast because we know that is the best weather of the year. You could try plugging your dates into Booking.com and see what is available |
Midweek should still be OK. Did you want to be right in downtown Carmel? Maybe Happy Landing Inn or Carmel Country Inn.
|
Thanks for the reco's - yes, midweek, not weekend.
We are ok with either right downtown Carmel, or outside of town at a nice property such as nearby Carmel Highlands or Valley. I'd say preference would be in downtown Carmel to be able to just enjoy the presence, and come and go as we please without having to drive anywhere. Don't need a luxury resort with spa & activities - we tend to make those arrangements ourselves. |
what are your dates? I picked 3 midweek nights in Sept and yes - the Carriage House is booked up. But I have no idea what your weekdays are . . .
|
thanks janis. no worries, you don't need to look up or fret about availability. I can do that.
|
Not in "downtown" Carmel, but we enjoy the Mission Ranch for short stays, it has quite a range of prices and accomodations.

Reporting back..
We stayed at La Playa, 8th & El Camino and loved it. It's an older hotel, but fresh & up to date. Ocean views and sounds out our window were perfect. Delicious breakfast in the morning. Sunset views from the patio while sipping a glass of local wine each evening. 5 block walk into town for shopping for food, less than that to the beach. |
