caribbean with Mom

i would like to take my mother on an amazing trip to the caribbean and am looking for some suggestions based on the following criteria:
1. would like to be able get to final destination island on a non-stop flight from New York City (no connecting flights - i.e. to St Bart's, no water taxis, etc.)
2. want hotel to be truly luxurious, without being too romantic, this being a mother-daughter trip and all.

i had originally planned on Grace Bay Club in turks & caicos, and may still go that route, but I fear it could be too "couple-y"... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Happy Holidays!

You might want to post this on the Caribbean board in order to get responses.

I don't think Grace Bay Club would be too romantic. Provo is a popular family destination and wouldn't make you feel awkward if you went with your mom.
When we went there were a couple of women friends on vacation together.

FYI, there are several good package deals on luxurylink.com, including Turks & Caicos Club (truly luxurious and quiet), Grace Bay Club, and Coral Gardens. You can get them for half the price of the normal rates.

You might want to look at Jamaica Inn too. It gets rave reviews.

Bermuda may be an option. Non-stop flight from NYC and many high end accomodations.

Lastly, the Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas gets high marks. That wouldn't be too romantic at all.

travellyne, St.Barts is probably too small to have a runway large enough to service non-stop carriers.

Have you thought of renting a home at one of the resorts?

My instinct was correct. You can't get to St. Barth unless you puddle jump, ferry, or charter a private plane.

How about Round Hill in Jamaica? No problems with non stop flights, upscale, you can stay in the hotel or rent a private home, nice area of Jamaica not too far of a ride from the airport, and it is private.

Barbados - there are non-stops out of JFK, and they take about 4.5 hours. Most of the hotels along the west coast will fit your other criteria of being luxurious without being "coupl-y". I loved both the Coral Reef Club and the Colony Club and both would be welcoming to an adult mother-daughter pair.
