Citypass is a coupon book which, for $53, inc. admission to the following:
2006–2007 CityPass includes admission to the following:
• American Museum of Natural History & Rose Center
• Guggenheim Museum
• The Museum of Modern Art
• Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises
• Empire State Building Observatory
I used the SF one last year and thought it was worth it, but that one also included public transpo. (inc. cable cars) for the week. This one doesn't. You can buy online or at one of the sites. Here is the link.

I would skip the SATC tour. You can go to all of those places on your own time. It's a waste of time and SO touristy.

That is quite a list. 5 days??

#1 is a given. #2 is ok so long as it isn't windy and it's a clear day. #5 should only be accomplished in any John's Pizzeria especially the one on Bleeker Street in the theater district. For #8, avoid the chain places if you can but if you can't than make it Smith & Wollensky. #11, cheap and online do not mix. If you don't mind waiting in line for upwards to an hour, visit TKTS in Time Square. As you get close to the booth, you can view the large board showing all of the shows that you can get discounted tickets to (upwards to 50% off original prices and for orchestra seating). You won't find a new show on the board but there will figure to be plenty of others that you won't want to miss.

Like BBQ? Go to Virgil's, go hungry and don't wear anything nice.

If you can spare a bit of time, a frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity is the best!

Cheers,

We seem to share the same interests, so I thought I'd pipe up with yet another pizza suggestion... everyone in NYC seems to have their favorite. Anyway, in the same neighborhood as Rice to Riches (Nolita, which is incidentally one of NYC's better neighborhoods for cool little boutiques... check out Mott st., Mulberry st., and Elizabeth st between Houston and Broome) on prince near mott there is a tiny little place called Ray's Pizza. It's not "Original Ray's" or "Ray's Original" or some other crazy permutation of those words - which you will notice all over NYC (for a laugh about Ray's pizza, please refer to the Seinfeld episode where Kramer has a long-distance relationship with a woman who lives downtown and ends up at the "nexus of the universe"). It is the actual original, and it's just called "Ray's". Go figure. Oh, and not only is it a little bit of history right there in a hipster neighborhood, but it's a real local spot. You will see everyone there - from ConEd workers to David Bowie (who used lived upstairs until a few years ago) to Vincent Gallo (i saw that guy there all the time when i lived on broome street from 2001-2005) to sneakerhead graffiti kids. Anyhoo, just my 2 cents. And here's a list of my other NYC faves: http://tinyurl.com/yfyqpc

PS: I've been to Kalyustan's and I know it's wonderful... but I also know it's pretty out of the way from most of the other places you will be checking out. If you live in a city with an indian or middle eastern community, you probably have a place like that in you backyard - e.g. I know here in LA there are certainly places to find all of what I found in NYC at Kalustyan's. Now, it's not the same as going to the place in Manhattan that everyone is always writing about, but I do believe after living there that half the reason they write about a lot of places is that it's all right there where the magazines and everything else happens... it doesn't mean it actually has more stuff than the place in your city - depending on where you live. Of course there are tons of exceptions, and I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all because there are tons of amazing things that you can only find in New York, but if time seems to be an issue and you are not a hard core foodie, maybe you will want to save K's for your next trip. Or for when you move there! Good luck to you!

Miss_Emery---thank you so much for the info! Yes, there are a lot of ethnic food stores in SF, so maybe Kalustyan's may be farther down on my list. Besides, I don't really cook very often, so, even if I could get a really nice chili from Africa, when would I use it?

And thanks to everyone who has been helping me with this list. :
