Car trip from Phoenix, AZ to Richland, WA via HIghway 101

My husband and I are planning a car trip from the Phoenix, AZ area to Richland, WA via Highway 101. We plan to leave the first part of April and have about 10-14 days to make the trip. I am interested in things/places we absolutely MUST see and pet-friendly places to stay if you know of any. Thank you so much!

Not sure why you are wanting to travel Highway 101. Highway 1 is the scenic route, Interstate 5 is the "quick" route. Are you sure you want Highway 101? if so what are you trying to see/do ?

The "quick route" is all the way north from Hoover dam to Twin Falls Idaho on US 93. Would you consider going to Richland first and then I-84 to Portland (see the waterfalls and Columbia Gorge) Head for Astoria on US 30 and take US 101 as far south as you wish even through San Francisco.
Bringing pets is often a hassle that keeps you from seeing places you really want to see JMHO. Just so you know, I'm with the camp that likes to drive US 101 southbound turning right into the nice viewpoints.

Thanks, everyone. We always take the US 93 route to and from AZ, so want to take a different route. I think Highway 1 (if it is more scenic) is what I want to do to enjoy the Pacific Ocean most of the way through CA. We've been to Carmel (if I remember right, I flew from Seattle to Carmel/Malibu and back, so didn't see much) about 45 years ago, but I've never seen the Redwoods, or much else along the way. We plan to take at least a week to travel from AZ to WA.

Except for the segment from SF to Fort Bragg hwy 1 and hwy 101 are the same road . . .

Ok. Thank you. In your opinions what are the absolutely "must sees" of Hwy 1 / 101?
