Car service Dulles to DC
Need to schedule our transportation from Dulles to DC, Eastern Market area. I have heard some good things, recently, about Affordable Sedan Service. Any thoughts/recommendations?
Thanks! |
Is there any reason a taxi wouldn't work? Sedan services usually cost 50% more than taxis, so I use them only when I need an early moning pickup at home, but it is easy to get taxi from the airport to town. Fare would be in the $60-70 range now, I think.

kayd, I had only seen recommendations for car services and the shuttle from Dulles. Just assumed a cab would be more expensive. There are 4 of us and hopefully only 5 bags, but might have 6.

I believe the website for the airport has a section with cab fare estimates (under ground transportation).

Sounds like just another reason to fly to Reagan National instead of Dulles. I have landed at Dulles twice. Once I transferred planes and the other I rented a car to go to Columbia MD. If National with its' METRO stop is not an option how about BWI with the Amtrak connection into Washington Union Station?

I'm not familiar with the taxis in Washington, D.C., but when we go to Dulles with 4 people and a lot of luggage, we just call Red Top Cabs in Arlington and ask for a minivan-taxi. The fare from our house in Arlington is around $70 -$75. I would expect the fare from Eastern Market to be around $85.
Red Top might be able to pick you up in D.C. if you call them. Their number is 703-522-3333. |
@tomfuller, I so would have preferred Reagan, but we had free flights on Southwest, thus Dulles. We fly Reagan to Orlando for the second part of our trip and planning on taking the Metro.

Thank you longhorn55!!! I just got off the phone with them and my quote was $75!! Very nice lady, gave me all the information where to go and what doors to exit to find them.

National has them all beat regarding ground transport, but if you can save $100 per ticket (x 4 in this case), the $75 taxi from Dulles or BWI is not such a bad deal. For a solo traveler, it is a different equation, and I'm willing to pay a bit more for DCA's convenience when I'm traveling alone.

National is by far the best airport option for visits to DC. However, they have far fewer flights esp non stops on long hauls and flights are generally more expensive. BWI often has less expensive flights than those into IAD and DCA. The Marc train is a great option weekdays for transportation into DC from BWI - less $$ than Amtrak.

I'm glad that worked out Lmichael, but I'll confess that I misread your posting as I thought you were going FROM Eastern Market TO Dulles, not the other way around.
At Dulles, Washington Flyer taxis are the exclusive taxi company, but cabs such as Red Top are also allowed to pick up passengers who have pre-booked. In the rare chance that your Red Top cab is not waiting for you, there will be plenty of Washington Flyer cabs. (Personally, I prefer Red Top to Washington Flyer, but both will get you where you need to go.) |
Thanks everyone! I wish I had this much advice for Orlando, not a single response. If any of you have suggestions for Orlando, please let me know.
