Car Seats

Any recommendations for car seats that are light weight and fit in a coach class seat...

If you go to the specific airline website, they will give you their specific rules. All indicate that car seat must be FAA-approved, which unfortunately lets out lightweight car seats and booster seats - they have to have a fair amount of weight to them to be effective.

We've always used our kids' regular car seats, which are quite heavy and bulky. But the last time we flew, a friend lent us a car seat carrier. The car seat straps into this harness and you carry it on your back like a backpack. It worked out really well and made moving around the airport much easier. If this interests you, I'll try to find out where she got it.

Thanks for the advice. We did find that Eddie Bauer makes a carseat carrier and it's available at Babies 'R Us.

we took the kids for the first time on a flight last weekend (w/ a layover, 4 to be exact). i thought about getting lighter-weight seats but decided it wasn't worth the expense in the end.

we brought their regular carseats, britax roundabout and marathon, which are both bulky and heavy. it really wasn't that bad. they both fit fine in the coach seats. my daughter was in an umbrella stroller and the carseat easily balanced on the handles making it easy to get through the airport. and, at our destination, they were in their normal seats which was nice.
