Will be flying to Ft. Lauderdale in Feb. -- any tips or recommendations on car rentals would be helpful -- Seemed like we paid way too much last year.....Thanks

Thrifty and Dollar have some good rates up right now, and additional discount with AAA.

book something now and save your confirmation number ....you can always change it if the other companies come up with some sale rates between now and then.

I agree that I've always found the best rates with Dollar in both Ft. Lauderdale and Miami (as well as numerous other cities). I've also always been pleased with the service.

I too usually get the best rate from Dollar (generally one way from Naples to Ft. Lauderdale or vice versa), but again a bit of a warning. If you rent from Dollar be sure to sign up in advance for their Fastlane free membership. It will let you bypass the line for pick-up which can be quite long. Also you'll probably get a couple free upgrade certificates.
