Car Needed in Austin?

First timers to Austin.
Staying 4 nites at Omni Austin Hotel on San Jacinto. Flying in.
Want to see the local sights/sounds/bbq.
Will be there for ACL, but not on purpose, tho we are going 1 day.
Should we rent a car?

Thank you!

I think you will want a car for at least part of the time you are there, to explore the Hill Country area around Austin.

In Texas, you need a car. If you can arrange it, don't have the car on your ACL day - the best way to get to ACL is by free bus from downtown Austin.

You will have to pay to park a car at that hotel (which is quite nice, by the way--I stayed there last December--sign up for the Omni Select Guest Program which entitles you to a FREE delivery of a hot and cold morning beverage each morning!) Austin does have one of those "rent-by-the-hour" car companies downtown--zip car or something like that which might be worth looking into if you won't need the car for very long.

That said, I have gotten amazing car rental deals in Austin on Priceline, but the ACL Festival may complicate that a bit.
