CAR IN VEGAS - PLEASE HELP
We will be winding up our 11 day vacation in Las Vegas. We will be coming in a rental car and staying at the Mirage for 4 nights. Should we turn in the car when we arrive and save the money? Is there ANY reason to keep the car? THANKS

There is no reason to rent a car in Las Vegas. The strip is gridlock- you can walk faster than you can drive. The Mirage is centrally located. You can walk, ride overhead monorails or take taxis or buses. I would turn in the car in LV.

Now come on, Sammie, that's more than a dramatic overgeneralization, don't you think?
We go to LV regularly and ALWAYS rent a car. Why?
Rates are dirt cheap, we like to go downtown a couple times, we have some favorite restaurants away from the strip, day trips to Lake Mead and the canyons are a breeze, and if you simply take a couple moments to learn how to avoid strip driving routes in LV, you'll discover that you can't get most places quite efficiently using Industrial, Paradise, Swenson, Koval, I-15, etc.
For the first time visitor there's plenty to digest without straying far from the "home hotel", but a car in LV is nearly a necessity for some people.

.....and that would be "CAN get most places quite efficiently" for anyone reading along at home.
I agree...a couple taxi rides would probably equal the rental price..stay of the strip driving..there are other streets to get you there...free parking at hotels...my son lived there and he never drove the strip..get a map of Vegas proper and you`ll see streets that you can drive on...unless it will cost an arm and a leg..keep your car...$20 to downtown from strip..$ 5 or six from say the Falmingo/bally`s to Hard Rock..watch cabbies don`t take you on the strip if you take one..the meter ticks away sitting in traffic...about $15 from the same places to Airport..think about the price difference...

Depends on what you want to do. If you're only going to visit the strip or lounge by the pool - I don't think there's any reason to keep the car. If you want to go to Red Rocks Canyon, Lake Mead, Mt Charleston, etc then you need a car.

By taxi it will probably cost $12 to get from the airport to the hotel. Hotel parking is free. There are buses that you can take downtown.

Not planning on doing any side trips just staying on the strip. I think we'll check in and then take the car back. Thanks for the good advice
