Car in Savannah

We're going to be in Savannah for 1 1/2 days staying in the historic district. Is a car necessary?

Only if you want to see something on the outskirts of town or go to Tybee Island.

I will say that when we stayed in the historic district we did walk most of the time but some days it rained so it was nice to have the car to drive down to river street. Also it was very warm and humid so it was nice to have the car close by to enjoy the A/C instead of the sweaty walk back. Now... saying that... we hated driving in Savannah due to all the one ways and the squares. But everyone told us we would hate it. Still... glad we had the car.

I was in Savannah at the end of May and drove around, but didn't have any problems. Sure the squares can be a pain, but they are so beautiful that it's nice just to drive around and look!
