Car donation

I know it isn't a travel question but I thought someone out there might be able to help. I have an old car I would like to donate and a friend mentioned that there are charities that take them he just didn't know which ones. Anyone know? Thanks

I donated a car to Volunteers of America a couple of years ago-- their website is volunteersofamerica.org

I donated last year to the National Kidney Foundation. Its a pretty easy process. I believe there is information on their web site explaining how it works. They also come and pick the car up. When looking at charities to donate to, you should look into how much of the proceeds from the sale will actually go to the charity, and also be sure that they are tax-exempt, so that you will be able to claim the value of your donation as a tax deduction.

I had a 1987 Mazda that died in 19999. I donated it to an outfit located in Brooklyn, NY called "OUtreach CEnter. The car was located in WEstchester County and they came to pick up the car at that location. They gave me a form that indicated the BLue Book value was $2150. I took it as a charitable contrbution on my 1999 tax return reducing my tax liability by that amount, Actual tax saving was $602.
