Captivating Jack London State Historic Park

Fascinating! Entertaining! Informative! Gorgeous! Those are just a few of the words that describe our visit to Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen, CA (Sonoma County), last Memorial Day weekend. Not only was the scenery stunning, but hearing stories about this incredibly intriguing individual and author made our visit even that more worthwhile. We didn’t cover all 1,400 acres (although in the heat it felt like it) of the park, but we explored trails, houses (including the tragic story of the Wolf House), grave sites, winery ruins, vineyards and even a Pig Palace, all of which make this such a unique spot to visit. Next time you're in "Wine Country," take a break from the wineries for a few hours.

I'm going to be in Glen Ellen for a few days in October - this is great!

I agree with Tom. It is a great visit. The house where he hid out from visitors to write had all sorts of "modern" technology like dicta phones, bit the setting was rustic. We were all ready to move in.

The main house has the most luxurious plumbing fixtures we have ever seen, all in a shade the British call eau de nil.

My sister, who is a regular visitor to the Netherlands did photograph two signs which she calls Dutch Hell: one warned of poisonous snakes, another said "No bicycles".

We had a great lunch along the road in Glen Ellen at a kind of bakery. Delicious salads, sandwiches, and baked goods.

By the way, located only about five minutes frrom the park is a terrific little winery...Eric Ross. Good reds and whites...Another wine club for the MaiTai family to join, just after I jettisoned them all.
