Captiva, Longboat Key or Vero Beach??
Our family is traveling to Florida in March of 2004. We are going to spend a week in Orlando (do the Disney thing) and then would like to go to a beach resort. These are the 3 places we are looking at. We belong to RCI and II so we'll be able to get a condo at these places. I am looking for a warm beach with activities for my children (ages 13, 11 & 8) all girls. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well the Gulf will certainly be warmer than the Atlantic for swimming and Captiva averages a good 5 degrees or more warmer that Sarasota area (Longboat) in the winter (including March), so based on your "warmth" requirement, I'd say Captiva is your best bet.

If you are looking at timeshare exchanges my recommendation would be to look at "Veranda Beach" on Longboat Key. It is, without a doubt, the most upscale and good sized condo that I have seen and is directly on the Gulf. There is much to do in the Sarasota area for children and a fantastic Mote Marine at the lower end of the island.

Captive is a beautiful place also but my vote would be Veranda Beach on Longboat Key.

Dear LN,

You mentioned Veranda Beach to stay. Did they have a good children's program? I am looking between this and South Seas Resort in Captiva. South Seas has an extensive children's program .. some cost .. some do not. Since, we will be staying a week I would like some activities there for the kids. Thank you :-)

Disney has a resort in Vero Beach...you may be able to get a deal if you combine the two...("deal" of course in Disney-speak meaning they don't take all your money...they leave you a little)
