Captain Whidbey Inn cottages?

Has anyone stayed in any of the 2 bedroom cottages here, they sound very appealing for a quick family getaway weekend and not too far from Deception Pass etc--
yes we've "done" Langley and want to be around Coupeville this time.

Yes. We stayed in one last July for the night. It was a little funky, but it was quiet, clean and worked for us. The furniture was a little old and mismatched and there was not too much in the way of books, games, etc. The hot tub was a nice touch, but it was very small. Can't remember if there was a TV or not. I think so. We enjoyed the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Be sure you stock up with drinks, wine, etc as there is no store nearby. A stop at Oak Harbor/Coupeville to get the essentials would be a good idea. Let me know if there is anything else you need to know.

Thanks so much Bill...do you know which one you stayed in? I think we are in the "Captain's Cottage" because how the rooms were described to me sounded like it would work out best for our family, even if the view isn't the best. Hoping that great ice cream place in Coupeville will be open that weekend :)

Hello--only stayed in the 1-BR cottage (the one at end of the cottages fronting Penn Cove), and enjoyed our stay (2 nights) very much.

The Captain Whidbey is one of our favorites, and Coupeville is a delightful little town. Be certain to visit the museum, too.

Have a wonderful time!

maw,

I think it was the Captain's Cottage. It was the one with two full baths, that much I remember. It had a newly redone kitchen area and a central room with lots of space. The view from the deck area is very nice and peaceful. I love the old lodge. It's a great place to hang out. You'll have a good time!

I/we have always stayed upstairs in the smaller double rooms in the inn itself, but I have to post to say how much I like Captain Whidbey!! It's a very special place. Hope your family enjoys it too.

Suze - are you talking about the rooms with the shared bath? I thought they looked nice, but there seem to be a lot of rooms for only two baths between them.....

Hmmm... it's been awhile, I'd have to double-check. While some rooms upstairs in the Inn share baths, maybe some doubles have their own?

Just a quick update--we did have a nice family stay at the "Captain's Cottage", a 2 bedroom cottage run by The Captain Whidbey Inn near Coupeville.
Positives: right on a saltwater lagoon with blue herons, kingfisher birds etc, very comfy beds in both bedrooms and a good layout(one bedroom at one end and one at the other),small hot tub on deck, also cute clawfoot (!) one person jacuzzi tub and fireplace adjoining master bedroom. Helpful staff. The old Captain Whidbey Inn lodge (and beach below it) and grounds, lagoons, were fun to explore with the kids. (By the way the rooms in the old lodge are adorable but small and ALL share the one ladies and one men's bathrooms!)

Negatives: hot tub was broken (it was working the night before so they did not realize this until preparing the place for us) but they did give us a nice discount because of that. Somewhat "rundown" on the outside, they could do a lot to spiffy up the outside of the place. Cute and cozy inside, and clean, but with worn carpet and so-so furniture. No TV or CD player or any such stuff. There is a 'country road' fairly close to the cottage that didn't bother us but could be annoying in summer. The kids were considered additional guests and charged accordingly but we knew this ahead of time.

Overall, we liked it enough to go back in spring or next fall...when the hot tub is working!! :)

Had a good meal at The Mad Crab in Coupeville and also enjoyed the ice cream place there. But all four of us also enjoyed the snacks and meals-especially breakfast-- (BRING GROCERIES!) at our cottage too, overlooking the quiet lagoon.

We just returned from a weekend trip to Coupeville. Checked out the Captain Whidbey Inn on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The front desk allowed us to go upstairs and take a look at the rooms (they had the doors open but roped off). They looked really cute, but the shared baths were small and not very clean. The restaurant and bar were completely empty and when I inquired of the hostess if the hotel was full she had no idea and told me to check with the front desk. They are maybe 15 feet from each other in the same building, but they do not communicate?! The front desk told me when I asked that the restaurant was completely separate from the inn. I could sense a little tension there.....We chose not to eat there because it was empty, and the prices were unreasonably high. It looked like a very cute place, but not much around so go for the quiet.
