"Captain Sundown" tour in Kauai

Has anybody taken a tour with Captain Sundown?
Looks like it is the only sunset tour that leaves from the North.
Wondering what the reviews are with this company and what all is included with the price.
Thanks. :)

You can get details about their various sailings, on their website:

Sorry...haven't taken this tour, so can't give you a review.

I was thinking about taking this one too, but only because it leaves from the north. I think I'd rather take Captain Andy's though (from south). Looks more 'Aloha'ish. Does north/south really make that much difference?

I'm currently researching this topic myself! From my understanding, if you leave from the north, you get to see more of the NaPali coast, b/c you are lot closer from the north and don't have to "commute" there, as you would from the western part.

The longer tours stop at the Niihau island. Has anyone done the longer 7 hr tour? Is the island stop worth the extra time/money?

We went on the Napali morning tour with Captain Sundown. The captain and crew were great. Since they can't launch from the dock there you go out on an outrigger from shore. This part was sooo fun. We paddled out after they put our stuff in waterproof bags and then boarded the cat. On the way back if you catch a wave you can "surf" back to shore, which we were able to do. So fun!

I don't know how their sunset trip is but I would do it based on my morning tour experience.

Anyone have any input to my question about the longer sailing tour?

We had the same good experience as Suzie with Capt Sundown, however it's been a couple of years :'( The big autumn waves arrived the day of our tour, and we ended up not snorkeling. Instead the captain rode the waves expertly, taking us back and forth towards Napali coast, it was a thrill. You could lay out on the net between the pontoons and snacks and food were good as I recall. This captain has alot of history behind him...you can google and learn the reason he's the only captain out of Hanalei Bay (at least that was the case in 2002).

Joan, by your description we could have been on the same trip!!! Fall, big waves, great sailing adventure, captain willing to talk....alot. ;)
