Capitol Pride week in DC...family trip question.

My family has been planning a trip to DC for the first week of June. Me, wife, son (11) and daughter (8). We see that Capitol Pride week is that week. I know there is a parade on the 8th and a Festival on the mall on the 9th. Throughout the week before those days are there any other events/gatherings that we might run in to while in town? I don't mean any offense toward anyone in asking this question.

Thanks!

Here's their website so you can see the scheduled events.

I don't know if you realize that two threads on this subject posted; you might want to ask the mods to delete one of them.

I posted the first one and forgot to tag it...first post ever. I'll contact them and get it removed. Thanks!

You can get an idea of what you might run into by searching youtube. The first thing I found was The DC Cowboys singing Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy and you can imagine the dance moves.
If this isn't your sort of thing, head somewhere like Mount Vernon or Montpelier for those days. or Even Shenandoah National Park.

Look, the District is a bigger place than what is being implied in the post immediately above my own. You may as well do a Youtube on crive-by shootings while you are at it or better yet about the Christians from Westboro Baptist Church.

We are planning in being there from 2-7...so not worried about 8-9th...just wondering about the 2-7 dates.

You are not going to avoid it when the enitre mall area is swarming with whatever group comes out in force for 2 days.

I would say possibly see more of a particular group the day before an event

I don't actually understand the question. DC is built to handle large crowds so you should not be concerned about large numbers of people blocking your way or totally filling up a museum or taking all available seats in all available restaurants. It's a city that routinely handles demonstrations, festivals and big gatherings of all kinds, as well as tourists who come in droves.

The way I understood the OP, is that they were trying to avoid running into events/gatherings that they might not agree with or want their children to witness. Nudity or skimpy dressed or yes gay and lesbian. If you have any demonstrations/events/festivals/whatever you want to call it(especially the larger more controversial types) then you are going to "run into" whatever that crowds makeup consists of.

Capital pride is one of the best parades in the US; it is huge and only comparable to those in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Everything goes on Pennsylvania Avenue, Mass and Dupont Circle. During the week there are a lot of things going on in the city but nothing is especially explicit about nothing in particular, I mean, if that is your concern. As a previous post mentioned the best way to avoid any type or nudity, and or gay or lesbian public demonstration is to not get in the middle of the crowd. The parade and the week are amazing. The city is going to be crowed, yes, but not impossible to walk or to use public transportation.
