Cape May-birding & accommodation in late Oct.
I have never been to Cape May but would like to 'get away' for a few days and would like to combine birding with a luxurious place to stay and some good dining. Suggestions?

We have reservations for this next week at the Southern Mansion (www.southernmansion.net). I'll be happy to post when we get back but it looks very nice.
Frommer's had some information... http://www.frommers.com/destinations/capemay . As did www.capemay.com . Fodors has some information listed under New Jersey - The Shore and Atlantic City. Hope this helps some! |
Thank you! I am comsidering your suggestions!

IF the weather holds up there are many places to stay in CM - late Oct. is near the end of the beautiful weather season. Consider the Cape May Lobster house. Eariler POSTS will discuss huge crowds in the summer but its still the locals' favorite.Do some Internet brwosing to be sure that you don't miss the best migrations.

A really lovely place to stay is the Queen Victoria: www.queenvictoria.com/

The Southern Mansion was okay. The rooms were as pictured online. Our room was on the third floor which was a hike when we had to drag our own bags. The tv was hidden in a cabinet that was barely visible from the bed. The breakfast in the morning was horrible. We also got a really bad recommendation for lunch. All in all it wasn't what it was cracked up to be especially at $200+ a night!
The Black Duck was very nice for dinner. Nice ambiance and good food. |
The Virginia Hotel is not luxurious but it is nice and they have an excellent restaurant in it - The Ebbitt Room. Another restaurant that is open all year and is very good is the Washington Inn.
