Cape Lookout Cabins

Hello: My husband, 3 year old son and I are heading to Cape Lookout. We are interested in the new cabins there and wonder if anyone has any experience with them or staying at the park at all. I think there are several yurts and camp sites, too???? We will be there for 3 days and I just wondered about stuff to do in the area and restaurants/grocery stores/day trips. And the park itself.....does it have a nice walking beach???? Any help would be great!!! Thanks!

Suzie
Cape Lookout on the Oregon Coast?

Assuming we're talking Cape Lookout in Oregon, you can find most of the info you need at this web site:

http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_186.php

The yurts book up fast, I've heard, at all the Oregon state parks. I've only been on the Cape Lookout hike at the top, so can't answer your questions. It's a pretty unpopulated area. Oceanside might be the closest town with shops. I don't think there will be a lot of shopping nearby otherwise. The whole coast is park, practically. I'm sure you'll find out when you get there! It's a beautiful area.

Rereading your email, I can tell you some about other things to do in the area. Actually, I'd ask that you ran a search on this web site for the Three Capes Loop or Tillamook. There are sand dunes, a light house, an "octupus tree," the town of Tillamook with its ice cream factory, the Blue Heron Cheese store and an old west museum. It is a gorgious part of the coast.
If you can't find the info on a search let me know and I'll look for it. This area was pretty comprehensively discussed, and in the last week or so.

We camped at Cape Lookout in Oct of 98. It is a normal State campground although it is a very nice area. We did not hike the beach at the campground. On the nature trail at the camp I saw a flying squirrel fly past me grab onto a tree and scamper away wow! We did some other beach and forest hikes, some of these you could do with a three year old. As Lisa said there is a lot to do in the area. Do the three capes loops, very pretty area
GP
