Cape Code, Nantucket, MV the week of Thanksgiving

Hi,

We are considering going to this area the week of Thanksgiving. We know it is a summer place and many things will be closed but are there still sites open? I know some places have extended their "season" to catch as much business as possible. Any recs on where to stay would be helpful. We are thinking 3 nights on the cape and maybe 1 or 2 on the islands.

Thanks

Thanksgiving is a great time to be on Cape Cod and in the surrounding area.

Thanksgiving originated here The town of Plymouth approaching Cape Cod has the Mayflower Replica, Plimoth Plantation and the Rock.

Provincetown on the tip of the Cape has the Pilgrim Monument lighted at this time for the Holiday Season as well as several monuments and sites commemorating the Pilgrim's first stop.

Many restaurants on the Cape & Islands have special Thanksgiving menus.

One of our favorite places to stay at this time is the Dan'l Webster Inn in Sandwich.

I believe Plimoth Plantation does some sort of Thanksgiving event. It's a wonderful place!

Check with the Cape Cod Chamber at http://www.capecodchamber.org/ . Understand, too, it can be cold, not just chilly, at that time of year. Dress acordingly.

Thanksgiving Day in Nantucket begins with the "Cold Turkey Plunge", in which a lot of nice people in crazy costumes jump into the harbor to raise money for the local public library. Last year, we were in shirtsleeves; the first year, it was 22 degrees. I would say those are the extremes of temperature you might expect!

Do not plan to come here or the Cape without reservations for Thanksgiving weekend, either for food or lodging. The week after and the week before are dead, but that week can be very busy.

Ackislander - can you give me some lodging and dinner recs on Nantucket?

We will be driving up from DC starting on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. We were thinking a day or 2 in Newport, maybe a day in Providence and then some time on the cape and one of the islands.

I'd scrap the day in Providence unless there is a specific reason to visit.

sorry providence people

I'd visit Plimouth Plantation

and head to Nantucket for the actual day.
