cape cod with toddlers

If you are going to the cape, you should focus more on the beaches instead of the pools. The beaches are why people love the Cape, so that is probably why you can't find too many places with kiddie pools. The kids will love the beach even more than the pool. I'm sorry that I can't give any advice on pools and I hope you enjoy your trip. The Cape is wonderful!

I can't help with the kiddie pool issue either. But we took our son to the Cape when he was 13 months old. We stayed in South Wellfleet in a cottage. We chose a cottage because they would let us bring our dog. Anyway, we found this location was ideal because it was convenient to both the Ocean and the Bay. You may find the bay will do just as well as a kiddie pool. It was perfect for us. The water was very warm and my son could play it in with out getting bowled over by the waves. Although we took him to the ocean too, it was a little more scary for him.

We've been going to the Cape for a week each year since before our kids were born. They're now 12 and 15.
The Cape has lots of freshwater ponds, and you might consider some of them. Seymour's Pond in Brewster(?) is one of our favorites. We've also gone regularly to Schoolhouse Pond in Chatham, which is the town we rent in. At Schoolhouse, for example, there's a lifeguard, and the shallow area is roped off.
We live by the ocean north of Boston, so being at the seaside isn't that big a kick for my kids. They like to play in the water, and we started going to the ponds when they were little to avoid issues with the surf. (Also, the beach near our cottage has little surf but TONS of seaweed, which bothered them.) Now we routinely swim at ponds.
There are other interesting things to do with toddlers. A day at the Heritage Plantation in Sandwich is fun--there's a bus you can ride from area to area, and there's an indoor carousel. The National Seashore is a fun place to go for easy "hiking."

The Cape doesn't tend to have many big resortish types of hotels with multiple pools so you would probably have trouble finding one. However, most beaches on the bay side are gentle and the water is shallow, especially at low tide. On the South side - Martha's Vaneyard Sound - the water is a little bit rougher but much warmer. On the National Seashore (my favorite) the waves are rough, the water is cold but the sights are unbeatable.

I just responded to another request about Cape Cod and my suggestion is Ocean Edge in Brewster it is a nice family resort and I am almost positive that they have a kiddie pool -if not several - they have many different pool areas and are also on the bay side so the beach is calmer! Good Luck!

We haven't been to the cape yet (we leave in a few weeks) but you might like the place we're staying. It's called Riviera Beach Resort in Bass River (near S. Yarmouth). Look up Red Jacket Inns on the internet and click on the Riviera. They have an outdoor pool with those slopes that go into the pool instead of stairs, water fountains and bubble jets, etc. Also, you can book a room right on the beach so the kids can play in the sand literally right outside your door. They also have an indoor pool which I've been told might be good since it ocassionally rains even in the summer. Check it out.

The best place to spend a summer afternoon with kids on the cape is the bird sanctuary in North Eastham, especially at low tide. There are miles of uncrowded beach, where you have to walk about 1/2 mile to get even knee deep. The sand flats are riddled with hermit crabs that pop out whenever the coast is clear. There are birds, tiny fish in the shallows,all kid of shells, a real paradise for children!
