Favorite things to do with kids on Cape Cod? We're renting a place in Chtham for the first time for 2 weeks in August. Any recommendations? We'll have kids (almost) age 6 with us. TIA.

"Cape Cod, An Explorer's Guide" is a terrific resource.

The Cape is a mini-golf paradise(mostly on Route 28 in the Hyannis-Yarmouth-Dennis stretch). Also, ice cream (Sundae School in Dennis and 4 C's in Centreville). If your kids like baseball, check out a Cape Cod league baseball game, although the season may be over by the time of your visit. Arnold's in Eastham is another good place for fried seafood.

In West Harwich you have your little mini racing cars, trampolines and milniature golf. All on Rte. 28

I second the Explorer's Guide--our fourth visit to the Cape is coming up this month, and the book is like an old friend!

Our children (12 and 7) love Hoxie House in Sandwich, the Chatham Fish Pier, low tide in Brewster and Wellfleet (and eating at Mac's), the aquarium at Woods Hole, and the various programs running at the Cape Cod Natural History Museum. Have fun!

I didnt enjoy cape cod, it seemed very hard to find the ocean! Every road I went down to get to a beach, was private property or only had 2 parking spots. You have to go to the offical tourist beachs or nothing it seems.

The farther out on the Cape you go, the less gentrified it is. At Gull Pond near Wellfleet, you can rent Sunfish and Kayaks right at the beach park. Parking tag is included in the rental price of the water toys while you are renting. It is a fresh water kettle pond.

Whale watch in P-town is well worth it, and everyone mentioned that the whales are numerous this year. We had a blast.

Definitely go to Wellfleet Wildlife, or Saltpond Visitor Center. Both are hiking on marked trails. Salt Pond is closer to Chatham.

There's a drive in theater in Wellfleet as well.

Up near Wellfleet it is only two miles shore to shore.

Rent a bike and do the Rails to Trails. You can get tandem trailers, and rental places are easy to find.

How about a pirate cruise out of P-town? http://www.capecodpirateadventures.com/index.html

Go to Rock Harbor in Orleans at low tide and build sandcastles and catch fiddler crabs. Parking is free.

Go to any National Seashore beach with a picnic lunch and some pails/shovels for digging. Bring along a frisbee or something to play catch with.

Take part in the many kid-oriented activities at the National Seashore (free).
