Cape Cod with a baby

We are considering a summer vacation (possibly into September) for a week or long weekend at the Cape and could use some advice. We have an 8 month old (will be 9 - 10 months when we go) and are likely travelling with a couple who have an 18 month old. Is there a particular part of the Cape that would make sense for us? We heard Chatham was good for families? We would likely spend some time at the beach, but would like to have options for a lot of other activities (since my hubby is fairly pale!). Also, since we do have children (which means loads of laundry) does it make sense to only look at house rentals?

I appreciate any advice you can give!

Hi JES - Come to the Cape after Labor Day if you can because the traffic is BRUTAL until then. You'll have a much better time because all of the summer people leave. The Cape is very family friendly, so you really can't go wrong no matter where you decide to stay. Dennis, Sandwich, and Chatham are all lovely. Yes, it does makes sense for you to rent a house, and you'll probably get a great rate if you come after LD.

Thanks Pam. If we go after LD, should we shoot for a more isolated place like Nantucket or Martha's Vinyard, or would you still suggest Dennis/Chatham etc?

I recommed Dennis/Chatham over Nantucket and MV because you'll have much more to do. You can browse the cute antique shops on 6A, walk along Main St. in Hyannis, and go on a whale watch. Nantucket and MV are very isolated and are better for day trips instead.
