Cape Cod weekend: What to do?
We'll be in Cape Cod this coming weekend, staying near Chatham. On my list of possible activities are:
-Enjoying Chatham and East Orleans towns/Villages -Nauset Marsh canoe trip (if available) -Eastham or Wellfleet Ocean Beaches We have essentially 2 full days there and will have cars available to us. We're a party of 8 adults. THANKS! |
Your ideas are fine, but with additional time you might:
Go to Provincetown for a stroll in town. Rent bikes and ride the Cape Cod Rail Trail. See a movie at the Wellfleet Drive-In (I assume it's still there!). Liz |
Sorry, I forgot to add that I was looking for recommendations for additional activiites.
Liz, where do you rent bikes from to ride the Rail Trail? |
You can rent bikes at the beginning of the rail trail in Orleans, at the Bike shop on Main St. Or from Idle Times, at the corner of Rt. 6 and Brackett Rd in Eastham, just down from the bike trail.
If it's a nice weekend, take a dune tour with Art's Dune tours in Provincetown, to see not only the Outer Beach, but the dune shacks. It's maritime weekend month on the Cape- you may want to climb to the top of Highland Light, in Truro- or visit the winery- tastings on Sat. and Sunday. |
The whale watch in Provincetown can be fun
|
Do you have access to the Boston Globe June 3 Sunday paper? There are all kinds of ideas in there. A friend just told me about a boat cruise you can take out of Chatham that takes you to see the seals and then drops you for a few hours at your own beach. There is also the Cape Cod Railroad in Hyannis that does dinner, brunch or just scenic rides. I plan to do this next time I go. Let us know what you discover!

A friend took a whale watch trip a few days ago and saw a LOT of whales. They are here and feeding now. A day going to P-town could include a whale watch trip www.whalewatch.com , Arts Dune Tour www.artsdunetours.com and a visit to the Truro Vineyards www.trurovineyardsofcapecod.com .
These are all unique Cape experiences and might be doable in a day. When you arrive, pick up a copy of the Cape Cod Times. There will be a list of "Things To Do Today" in the entertainment section. Pick one up both days as it is only good for that day. It includes art exhibits, concerts, walks etc...very complete. If you arrive on Friday be sure to get the paper as that has a separate section for the whole week. Please let us know what you end up doing and have a great weekend! |
Thanks for the suggestions...unfortunately the last 2 I missed before we left.
We had a WONDERFUL time on the Cape (first time). We spent an afternoon up in Provincetown. Rented bikes, ate lobster and gelato (not at the same time) perused the galleries and shops. Unfortunately did not make it out for a whale watch (my mom is afraid of getting sea sick again). We also spent a 1/2 day in Chatham, some time in Orleans, visited the church of Transfiguration out at Rock Harbor, visited the lighthouse and Ocean beach at Chatham and generally explored. With only 2 days to take in as much as possible, we crammed in quite a bit. We absolutely understand the allure of Cape Cod and hope to visit again. Oh, and visitors, I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Little Inn at Pleasant Bay. A major player in the success of our short Cape Cod stay. |
Thanks for the update. I'm glad you had a good time and hope you make it back soon!
|
Wellfleet Drive-In going strong as ever - double features !!!! Same merry-go-round in the playground and dancing ice cream bars on screen during intermission as when I was a kid in the 60's !!! A must-see on any Cape trip !!!!

Hi ..
I read your posting and I am going to the Cape Oct 1 for 4 nights. I am looking for a B&B to stay in. You speak highly of the Little Inn at Pleasant Bay...can you tell me more?? Thanks |
just returned from Cape Cod- stay at the Inn on the Sound in Falmouth- it is PERFECT
|
Hi all..
We just got back from the Cape a couple of days ago and I can see why everyone loves it.. We stayed at the Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster and though we had a 2 bedroom villa, service was terrible and the rooms are dirty. I wish I knew about the Little Inn at Pleasant Bay.. Loved Ptown and just driving around the small towns. |
