Cape Cod travel with pet
 

Hi, we have a 2 yr old Beagle that we would like to bring with us on weekend trip to Cape. Found some lodging that accept pets online, listed here,

I wanted to survey what people have experienced. Any recommendations from the above list, any other recs. Are there lodgings where they would watch the dog while you go out for dinner? Our dog doesn't bark at home, but does have separation anxiety and may howl in strange environs. Pls recommend, thx.

Interesting site. I noticed that there were 2 listings for Provincetown lodging sites. I don't know about theem but provincetown has to be the dog friendliest place in the U.S.

There are so many people walking dogs (or vice-versa) along Commercial street that it is hard to believe. At the outdoor cafe's you see many people enjoying their lunch with the pooch laying peacefully under the shade of the table. All along Commercial street shop-owners put out bowls of water for dogs.

Another option is to leave your Beagle at the Animal Inn at Sandwich while you enjoy your weekend. There is also a service that provides personalized pet sitting in your home (or motel) - Paws & Claws - 508 385-3638.

While this may not be what you expected - at least I responded!

I believe the MSPCA (www.mspca.org) has a Cape Cod shelter; they can probably give you tips on how to handle your dog's separation anxiety.

Also -- maybe try contacting the New England branch of BREW beagle rescue to see if they can recomend a dog sitter near where you'll be staying?

We have stayed several times at the Outer Reach Resort in Truro, just before you reach Ptown. The location is amazing - best views from the rooms facing the dunes and looking towards Provincetown (I think these rooms are numbered in the 30s). This is a very simple, clean, no frills old fashioned motel. No A/C - rooms have portable fans and can get pretty toasty in the heat of the day. The pool on the property is large and well maintained. We are dogless and I have no idea if petsitting is available, but there is a decent Italian restaurant (Adrian's) right on the property which serves a great breakfast and nice, basic Italian meals. This is a very peaceful retreat from the Ptown hustle and bustle, but close enough to easily join in on the fun if you like. A perfect base for days spent beaching, biking, off-roading, etc.

oops - forgot the important part about Outer Reach - they are super pet friendly.
