Cape Cod traffic?

It is necessary for me to leave the Cape on a Sunday heading back to NY. Does anyone have any idea when the traffic would be least congested? I've gotten into trouble before.
Thanks,
Annie

Leave no later than early afternoon.

Also depends on the weather as well. If a Sunday is really nice then folks tend to leave the Cape later. If it is crappy on Sunday and going to stay that way then they leave earlier.

A lot of folks get an early start. A lot of folks head home after breakfast. A lot of folks hit the road at checkout time (11AM, Noon). A lot of folks checkout, have lunch, then head home. A lot of folks wait until after dinner, hoping everyone else has left long ago.

Folks leaving from Provincetown will reach the bridges in about an hour and fifteen minutes with no traffic. From Chatham, 45 minutes. From Hyannis, about 30 minutes, and so forth.

Sunday is the busiest day for leaving the Cape. How busy depends upon that particular Sunday.

If there's construction, or an accident, along your route, all bets are off.

Then, you have your choice of the Bourne Bridge or the Sagamore Bridge.

If you have a cell phone, you can call SmarTraveler to see if there are delays on one bridge or the other or both. Sometimes, a time is given, sometimes not.

See: http://www.smartraveler.com/scripts/...e.asp?city=bos

Of course, if there is a delay on both bridges when you phone, you can either stop and continue on later, or keep going. Either way, you'll get home later.

There are no constants, only variables.

Annie,

Just leave at 7am and you won't have to worry about it.
