Cape Cod summer vacation

I am trying to decide where to stay a week in Cape Cod with my family. I have 3 kids, 14,12,and 9. My husband and I have it narrowed down to two locations.

1) The Bay side of Orleans in a home rental with a very short walk to the private beach. Its very close to Skaket Beach between Skaket beach and Namskaket Marsh!! Seems like a nice easy location. Though no direct view of the water from the house. This home has bedrooms for everyone! Big house with screened in porch.

2) Chatham home rental on Ridgevale beach and the mouth of Buck's creek. This home is only two bedrooms, which will put my older son on the sofa bed. The thing I do like about this home is that it comes with kayaks for us to use in Bucks creek. I love that idea with my kids!! It does have water views from the deck and house.

I seem to like the bay side because of the low tides and tidal pools. I like Chatham because I'm thinking it might be more exciting and entertaining for my older kids. We do plan on exploring as much of the Cape as we can while we're there for 7 days. We are going the first week of July. I just can't decide!?

Thanks,
K

Chatham - more convenient to seeing other areas of the Cape!

Get your lodging nailed down asap. I tend to like the Eastham to Ptown part of the cape, but either Orleans or Chatham would be fine.

Either will be fine.

I am familiar with the Orleans/Skaket Beach area. Cousin lives there. Nice, quiet area. Good access to Route 6 for exploring P'Town, etc.

You'll enjoy the Cape just about anywhere you go but I prefer P'town or Truro. I stayed in Chatham once and found it lacking in things to do. That was many years ago so maybe it has changed.

We are going to rent the small cottage in Chatham. Seems like the kids will have more to do there. Thank you for your suggestions!!

Please do a Trip Report when you return. I am particularly interested in the activities for kids in Chatham since I do return with my Grandson frequently to the Cape and am always looking for things to do with him.
