Cape Cod Resort Help
Looking for a place to stay 4th of July week (not a whole week). The VROB options underwhelmed me and seemed overpriced. I'd really like to stay at a resort, so that our 3 year old can swim in a safe environment, with lunch options there, stuff to do, etc. We usually do 4* or 5* properties. So far, it seems the only placess with availability are:
--Wequasset, where the rooms are all over $750 per night (a little too high for me!) --Ocean Edge Resort Villas-- I loved this option until I realized despite $425 per night, you don't get to use the property's beach if you're staying in the Villas. (Why would I want to haul my two little kids and ride a bus to a public beach if I'm paying that much? Am I missing something?) --Blue Water on the Ocean--Seems to be around $300 per night for what looks like a maybe 3* property to me, but it does get good reviews, and it is at least on the beach. Thoughts? Any other suggestions? |
One more note: I'm trying to meet up with friends that are staying in Brewster and Bass River, respectively. It looks like Ocean Edge is in Brewster and Blue Water is not far from Bass River. So, one of them will have to drive to meet the others either way, but I don't know traffic patterns, etc. To the extent that information changes your thoughts, let me know.

Bass River and Ocean Edge are about half an hour apart except on Saturdays (changeover day for rentals), Sundays (going home for Bostonians), and rainy days, all of which impact traffic.
It's pretty late to be looking. You may have to pay more or settle for less than you want. If the pool and location are your main priorities, you may be able to find both at a non-resort but with a lower level of other amenities. |
Thanks. Any thoughts on the above 3 spots?

Ugh, I responded last night but it's not here. I will try again!
The Wequasset is a beautiful property- 4 or 5 star for the cape depending on the room you get. The newly renovated rooms are just gorgeous. The restaurants are great and the pool area is beautiful. They dont have a beach on site though- they have a boat launch that takes you to their private beach.I have stayed here 3 times and really enjoyed it. I stayed at Ocean edge years ago for a wedding-probably 17 years ago and i really liked it- not in the same league as wequasset. wasn't aware of their beach policy, which, IMO , is ridiculous. There is a hotel right in town in Chatham that has a pool and is close to the beach that might be less, but i'm sorry i cant think of the name of it- but i know i've read about it on this sight. hope that helps! |
My responses didn't come through last night either.
The hotel right in town in Chatham is The Wayside Inn on Main Street. It's a short walk to Oyster Pond, a very child friendly, waveless salt pond. Good for little kids. The Wayside also does have a pool and a nice restaurant. It's adjacent to Kate Gould Park which is the location of the Friday night Chatham Band Concerts. (very nice event to attend by the way and it's over by 10:00, so doesn't disturb anyone.) lukesaunt: You've left this too long, I'm afraid, to find many bargains about but you might find a perfect rental on www.weneedavacation.com . It might be much more afforadable to just rent a cottage for a week than it would be to reserve rooms in a Cape resort. Even if you don't stay the entire time renting a house could still be a budget friendly choice. |
