Cape Cod - off-beat, or less well-known, interesting things to do?
Hi all. We leave for Cape Cod next month. We love the Cape! This will be, I think, our 8th trip, so we've done most of the tourist things. I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas on perhaps some of the less well known things to do.
Is the Wellfleet fleamarket a good one? Can you go to the top of the Chatham lighthouse? These are two things we haven't done yet and are considering.

After visiting the Sandwich Glass Museum head down Rte. 6A to the studio of Mr. Michael Magyar who is continuing the great Sandwich glass blowing traditions. You will prob. see him making some beautiful bottles or other artifacts.
Then visit the Heritage Museums and Gardens. Also in Sandwich.

I do like the wellfleet flea market and the drive in too, good old fashion fun!
How about surfing or kite boarding lessons, a seal cruise, go carts and batting cages? Recently in my blog at UndergroundCapeCod.com I wrote about taking a biplane ride or skydiving at the Cape Cod Airfield. The Cape from the air is fantastic!

I'll throw in a few things on the Outer Cape, most of which can be easily googled (I've included a couple links)
In Provincetown:
Walk to the top of Pilgrim Monument and visit the museum (P-town is where the Pilgrims realy did land first and it is there that the Mayflower Compact was signed)
Walk the beach forset trail at the National Seashore
Whale watch - a few companies, all good
Getting a pair of hand made sandals at Victor Powell's

Sunset at Herring Cove
Art gallery wallks early evening on Fridays (free wine and cheese)
Art's Dune Tour - this is great fun, taking a Suburban into the dunes and seeing/learning local history
http://www.artsdunetours.com/
Carnival parade on Thursday Aug. 20th - theme is Summer of Love - come early for parking (also, it can be a bit bawdy)
Cape Cod National Seashore ranger guided activities: http://www.nps.gov/caco/upload/JulyAugust2009.pdf
Park in the West end at Provincetown Inn and walk to the very tip of the Cape and Long Point light or take the Flyer's shuttle across the harbor to Long Point.

a 1 1/2 hour ride on a Lobster boat learning how it is done

...and then there is just sitting on a bench in front of town hall people watching (with a "snack" from the Portugese Bakery)

Thanks so much, all. Of all the times we've been, we still have't been to Sandwich.
I love the National Seashore. We've climbed the Pilgrim Mon. twice. The first time my son was only 18 mos old. It took us a long time - but we made it. A woman was complaining about the the steps, and her husband pointed out that if a baby could do, she certainly could!
