Cape Cod of the Midwest?

I grew up in Wisconsin and always heard that Door County (northwest of Green Bay)from Egg Harbor up to the tip of the peninsula was known as the Cape Cod of the Midwest. I've been to Door County many times and love it, but never having been to Cape Cod, can anyone who's been to both tell me if that is accurate? It's a place I think I'd love to visit someday. Thanks.

Susan
