Cape Cod Lodging Close to Beach
We're so depressed! Our favorite place to stay in Chatham is out of business! :( We loved Chatham, and we enjoy B&Bs....but neither of those are requirements.....a location close to, (or on!) the water is more important to us at this point.....Also, we'd prefer not to spend much more than $200 a night....we're not interested in Nantucket, MV or P-town......Any recommendations you may have are welcome!! Thanks, Colette

You don't mention time of year, so prices may vary, but you may want to check out rentals at www.oceanedge.net in Brewester

We stayed at The Cove in Orleans last year. It was pretty basic, but clean. It has a view of the town cove. It's about 20 minutes north of Chatham. We mostly drove to the National Lakeshore beaches when we wanted to swim, we also spent a few hours walking the beach near Chatham.

The Sea Crest Resort in N. Falmouth has it's own private beach.

The Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast in Eastham is the only lodging that is in the National Seashore. It is our favorite place to stay because it is surrounded by fields, ocean views and walking trails and the B+B itself is lovely. The accommodations are up-scale with the least expensive suite in your price-range if you consider the full breakfast and all inclusive price. Fort Hill is not on the water, however, because it is a rural historic district of farm fields...the "old timers" never built on the beach...for obvious reasons! The unobstructed views from the Fort Hill Area, over Nauset Marsh out tho Coast Guard Beach and the Atlantic, are some of the best views on the Cape. The water's edge at Hemmenway is a short walk along a trail. The drive to Coast Guard Beach is about 3 minutes....longer if you decide to throw a kayak into Nauset Marsh at Hemmenway and kayak to the beach!

On the outer cape, you won't find too many places on the beach, since the National Seashore , since 1965, does not permit building on land in the Seashore unless it was there prior to that year.
That said, In Wellfleet, Aunt Suki's Bed and Breakfast, on Wellfleet Harbor, in Wellfleet does have it's own private beach, and lovely accomadations. You need to go to Wellfleet's Chamber of Commerce website, click on Bed and Breakfast's. In season may already be booked. In Brewster, on the bay side, is Linger Longer by the Bay. Again, look for the Brewster Chamber's website. Fodor's new Cape Cod Guide is also chock full of great ideas. If you put Cape Cod in the search function, you may find a myriad of suggestions! |
Thank you for ALL of your suggestions! I'm in the "negotiation" stage right now with a rental owner in New Seabury....does anyone have any opinions on that part of Cape Cod? I've never even driven through that area, so it's a mystery to me! Thanks again.....I'm saving all of your responses!
