Cape Cod itinerary help

Hi,

Thanks for all your help in planning where to stay in Cape Cod.

We (family of 4 adults) are leaving for Chatham from Boston tomorrow (Friday) mid morning.

I have never driven this route before, so any route suggestions are welcome (I will be leaving from the Fenway area)

We will be returning from Chatham on Sunday afternoon (want to try and beat the traffic) and want to do the following when we are in Cape Cod:

1) Visit Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard...any preference?

2) Go on a Whale Watching cruise

3) Some some time relaxing in Chatham or nearby

I am confused on whether we should do the Nantucket/MV trip on Sat or Sundat and when and from where to do the Whale Watching trip.

Any thoughts friends?

Thanks so much,
Andy

I am confused - you can not possibly go to Nantucket or MV on Sunday and leave Cape on Sunday afternoon. And leaving Sunday afternoon will certainly not beat any traffic.

your visit is too short to try and fit a visit to the islands. I'd skip MV and Nantucket.

Take a whale watch out of Provincetown. You can visit PTown, wander the shops, visit the pirate musem as well. Spend some time visiting the national seashore on the outer cape. Its enough to fill your relatively short trip.

For whale watching - Dolphin Fleet out of Provincetown.

If you want to beat the traffic on Sun you need to leave in the early morning, at least by 9am. Either that or leave in the evening, around 8pm or later.

I don't think the traffic will be that bad this Sunday. Everyone was here last weekend! The back-up was 17 miles at times. Usually the weekend after Memorial Day is pretty quiet.

I spend most summers in Dennisport, MA on the cape. Went last August on a whale watching cruise through Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises. I fully expected to see maybe 2 whales but saw a lot more - maybe 30? it was amazing and a must do experience. this company is also a lot closer to Chatam than all the other crusies which usally leave from P-town.

I absolutely love Chatam. walking up and down main st is always on my top list of things to do every summer. I actually just did last weekend! tons of great little shops, etc.

I usually drive I93 south to route 3 south over the sagamore bridge/route 6 to Dennisport. Chatam is a 15 minute drive down route 28 from dennis.

have a great time!
