Cape Cod in October
2 weeks in Cape Cod area in mid-October. We are interested in beaches, scenic drives, history, national parks, quaint villages, lighthouses and are budget conscious for lodging. Suggestions?

One week on Martha's Vineyard and a week in Provincetown would be incredible that time of year.

Or not. At the beginning of the month, yes. At the end, slightly chancier.
If you click on my name, you can look at a lot of similar questions on which I and others have already written extensively. After you check those out, come back to fill in the details. |
Beaches in mid-Oct.? Hmmm. Bring warm clothing.
Quaint villages? Hmmm. At that time of the year, a lot of places will seem "quaint" because they're devoid of tourists. Somewhere, Patti Page is smiling. The lodging choices for the budget-conscious should be good. For more info, you'll need to indicate a dollar figure that suits your budget. There's nothing wrong with the Cape in the off-season, as long as you know what to expect: cool and quiet, as the retirees take back the peninsula. |
Years ago I went with a group of girlfriends to the Cape in October and we had a great time. We loved having P'town and other area to ourselves.

Vincenzo, there are others beside retirees who are year rounders on the Cape. There are the wash ashores and there are many who have lived here for many generations!
I remember 50+ years ago when I was waitessing summers, tourists used to ask me where my family went after Labor day. They were stunned to find out that my family were year rounders and that we even had schools for those of us who lived here. October is a wonderful month on the Cape! Well usually anyway. |
Going in a week, so hope the weather is at least sunny. Will they still be harvesting cranberries? I have never seen a bog. We rented a cottage and just a girlfriends get away for four nights.
