Cape Cod in March
 

I am going with my family to Cape Cod in late March for a few days. I have two teenagers. We are debating between Chatham and Falmouth. Where would you go and why?

I can't say which town would be better, but brrrr. End of winter out on the Atlantic. Brrr. I would expect very little to be open that time of year.

Without knowing your interests, I would say it probably doesn't make much difference. Chatham is a bit more picturesque.

Have you looked at the weather? That's still the end of winter - and not really time for a beach resort - even just walking on the sand. And yes, many places will be closed.

Neither place would be my choice...Provincetown is better. Interesting shops, great trails to bike in the sand dunes, fun to walk out on the mud flats at low tide, whale watching (don't know if they are in March, though)... Don't know about Falmouth, but there is nothing for teenagers in Chatham...I found it boring and I'm not a teenager....

It's hard to answer your question without knowing what you want to do. March is late winter on the Cspe. More businesses will be open in Falmouth but if you just want to explore, Chatham is a good central location. There isn't a lot of tourist stuff to do because it is a summer destination. But winter is nice to walk on the beach, explore, and relax

You can easily go from Chatham to Provincetown for the day.

There is a big Sheraton [i think] in Eastham with an indoor pool which might please the teens. It is near the National Seashore and roughly half way between P-town and Chatham.

Late March and early April are the low point of the year in the Cape and Islands. It won't be crowded.

Thanks much. I realize that it will be brrr. We are interested in just touring around. Will at least some shops and restaurants be open in Chatham and/or Falmouth??

Of course, there are full time residents in all of the cape and they would love to have your business. They have to eat and shop. I love the beach when it isn't full of tourist and traffic. You might just have pleasant weather, who knows now days, it has been crazy of late.

As Senior stated, both towns have what you want. Advantage to Falmouth for being closer to Boston and an easier trip with traffic. Just my opinion, but I think Chatham being on the Lower Cape has a more traditional feel. Chatham beaches are more expansive that the smaller beaches in Falmouth, but some of the Chatham beach areas aren't great for swimming due to currents (and more recently sharks.) Chatham also may be a bit more expensive for accommodations.
