Cape Cod Honeymoon - Summer 2002 - Please Help!
Hi. We are planning to spend 1 week on Cape Cod for our honeymoon next summer. Neither one of us has ever been there, so any input you could provide would be greatly appreciated. We would like to stay somewhere in the Brewster, Harwich, Chatham or Orleans areas in the $150 or less category, preferably less. It would be great to be near the water and/or near a main shopping/restaurants/downtown area, but as we will have a car it is not absolutely necessary. Our preference is probably to stay in one place for the duration, but if it is highly recommended to stay in one part of the Cape for half the time and then move to another, we are open to suggestion. A few properties we are looking at are the Old Sea Pines Inn in Brewster, the Nauset House Inn in East Orleans or possibly the Moorings in Chatham. I've also seen some places that offer a private room or two seemingly in someone's house, but it is harder to gauge what they might really be like. Any comments or suggestions on any of these properties or others would be very welcome and appreciated. Also, midweek in July what is a realistic driving time from say Chatham to Provincetown or Chatham to Woods Hole? Again, any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Of the towns you listed, my choice would be Brewster. There is a really lovely B&B called the Ruddy Turnstone that I have enjoyed. I would recommend the Bay View Suite. I think it might be about $25 more than your price range, but really worth it in my opinion. There's a picture on their website of the room, much nicer in person, and on the right-hand side is a wall of windows looking out over conservation lands. Very beautiful. If you stay there, from the bridge, take route 6A for a scenic route. http://www.sunsol.com/ruddyturnstone/

Another recommendation would be the Wood Duck Inn. It's in Cataumet Village in Bourne, just over the brige into Cape Cod. Here I would recommend the Garden Suite. They deliver breakfast in a basket to your room which overlooks cranberry bogs. I love this place and the innkeepers Dawn and Phil. If you call them, tell them Tara from Florida recommended you.
http://www.wooddduckinnbb.com

If I were you, I would first stay at the Wood Duck Inn for a few nights, within easy reach of Falmouth, Woods Hole, and a ferry to Martha's Vineyard for a day trip. From there I would head on over to the Ruddy Turnstone for the rest of the week, within easy reach of Provincetown.

You can email me directly at [email protected] if I can answer any more specific questions or recommendations about sites or restaurants. On that subject, check out the Cape Cod Dinner Train
www.capetrain.com

You can read more about the 2 B&Bs I recommended at http://insiders.com
then click on Cape Cod.
I would definitely recommend the Nantucket House Bed and Breakfast in Chatham. It is a short walk (1/4 mile) from a nice beach and about 3 miles from the center of town. The rooms are lovely and the owners will treat you very well! They have a couple of rooms for under $150. My mother and I stayed there an loved it. Chatham is a great "hub" to see the cape and a lovely town to spend time in. We liked being a little bit away from the action of "downtown" Chatham, too. Also, if you do stay in or go to Chatham, definitely visit "Pisces," a restaurant next door to the Nantucket House B&B. It was wonderful!

If you're looking for fun in the sun I would stay away from the Cape! With just a week to spend the chances are likely that you're weather won't cooperate. I live in the area and can't wait to leave it in the summer for more sunny climes! Cape Cod for a honeymoon?? Spend your time in Boston and take some day trips! You'll be happier!

Hi: I think you have made a great choice in planning a honeymoon on Cape Cod. I'm quite sure you will have a wonderful time no matter where you stay or what the weather is.

I think I found a place that meets or exceeds most of your requirements. The Orleans Inn standard rate is $125 and the inn is right on Orleans cove where you can watch the boats go by from their porch. You can also walk to Orleans center from here to shop and eat.

This inn has been around for a long time and is very romantic. It is a real inn with a restaurant and bar, not someone's house.

I work for Cape Cod Life magazine so I know the Cape pretty well. You can go to our website capecodlife.com and learn a lot about the cape from there. Even better you can subscribe to the magazine from this website and really plan your honeymoon.

Best Wishes

Gene
