Cape Cod dining
We have not been to the Cape in about 6 years or so. What new and fun dining places are there? Family of 4 - willing to try anything, kids are well-behaved (okay - most of the time!!)
We are probably staying in Brewster. Thanks. |
My family spends two weeks on the Cape (Chatham) every summer with kids of varied ages. Here are their two favorite restaurants --
good food, kid friendly, not too pricey, near Brewster: Land Ho! in Orleans village - varied menu, good for lunch or dinner, "pub" type atmosphere. Arnolds in Eastham - great place for eat-in or take-out seafood (incredible fried clams and onion rings -- not real healthy, but delicious!) Be prepared to stand in line though -- they are always packed! |
My favorites??-
Gracie's Tapas in Dennis. Land Ho in Orleans, for lunch. Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet for lunch or dinner Blacksmith Grill in Truro for dinner Moby Dick's in Wellfleet for informal, delicious lobster, seafood. Front Street in P'town for dinner Brewster Fish House nin Brewster for dinner. Lots Of good eating! |
Thanks for the suggestions.
Heard of: Gerardi's Cafe in Dennis Roo Bar in Chatham Ardeo in Brewster Comments? Thanks! |
Here are some good places for family dining that are new within the last 6 years or older than that but may be new to you:
Sesuit Harbor Cafe: Outdoor dining along the channel connecting Sesuit Harbor with Cape Cod Bay. Enjoy outstanding meals while watching boats come and go. Also try their Dinner Cruise aboard their new boat the Lobster Roll. All happening at the North Side Marina in East Dennis. Chatham Bars Inn Beachouse right on the beach overlooking Pleasant Bay and Nauset barrier beach. A few miles north on route 28 a similar beachfront restaurant at the Wequassett Inn also overlooking Pleasant Bay. The Compass Rose Summer Shanty is the Cape's newest waterfront bar and restaurant located at the Bass River Marina. Here are some other grat family dining options that we always enjoyed: Cpt'n Elmers in Orleans: Great food and nautical atmosphere. Cape Cod Dinner Train. The new Kream'n Kone. Gene |
We eat at Gerardi's for a special night out...some of the best Italian we have found on the Cape. Don't be fooled by the modest appearance from the road. Chef-owned and run, the food is fresh, imaginative and not inexpensive.
For a change of pace try Mac's Shack (the old Lobster Hut) on the way to the pier in Wellfleet. They are very casual, but do have indoor dining, unlike their more casual counterpart,Mac's Seafood which is on the pier overlooking Wellfleet Harbor. |
While staying in Brewster last summer we went to Mahoney's Atlantic Bar and Grille and my husband and I were very impressed with our meals. I would definitely go back there next time I am in the Cape. He just loved his ahi tuna.
|
Also, for anyone familiar with the Brewster area, what places can I get a fresh, cooked lobster for take-out?
|
When are you going, as a few of the above mentioned are closed for the season.
|
This summer - should have mentioned that!

Capecodshanty,
Where's Gracie's in Dennis? I'm going up this weekend and would love tapas. Some good recommendations; Here's a few more that kids and adults may both like; P-town: Napis - fun place with diverse menu - walking distance to town Clem and Ursies (sp.) off rte. 6 - funky and very fun fish joint/other entrees avail. (foods very good) with great drinks (I love the Mojitos) Bubala's - outdoor cafe - casual and full menu - great people watching local Buccas - excellant italian Harwich ? or Chatham on the line And of course another vote for Arnold's - eat in or outside |
