Cape Cod and/or Boston?

Hi, we are planning on traveling to Cape Cod in late June to early July for a family reunion. We will be staying at the Seacrest with our three children ages 11, 13, and 15. How long should we plan on staying on the Cape and/or should we go to Boston? We have approximately 8 days. Our kids love baseball. Any recommendations would be appreciated as well as hotel recommendations for Boston. Thank you!!

It really depends on what you want to do. Your kids might just want to hit the beach on the Cape for a week. You could do that and simply drive to Boston for a day trip one day. Whale watching can be done out of Plymouth or Provincetown, as I recall.

Boston has a lot of interesting museums, the Freedom Trail, etc. If baseball is a priority, preorder Red Sox tickets if they are at home.

LS had good advice and I would just like to add that the Cape Cod Baseball League is stocked with the finest college baseball prospects and games are free.

For whale watch go to Provincetown which is where the whales are on Stellwagen Bank.

Try getting a boat out of Barnstable Harbor which is half way to Provincetown from The Seacrest. It would be more fun to spend the time on the water rather than in traffic.

Greetings!
What a great time to visit. I'd like to add, that if you are coming some distance and/or your kids have never seen Boston, I'd definitely go into the city for a couple days. Be sure to take in the Duck Tour out of the Prudential area, and walk at least part of the Freedom Trail around Quincy Market area. Dinner in the NorthEnd (Italian) would be fun for them, and depending on the date, you might even run into a festival.
The only caveat: Do not attempt to drive onto Cape Cod on a Friday between 2:pm and 9:pm, or off the Cape on a Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. On your way between Boston and the Cape, I'd recommend stopping at Plymouth, to see the Colonial village and Mayflower replica, and hear the living history actors describe their lives.
Have a great trip!
PS to Gene: Where does the Cape Cod League play?! And where are the schedules published?

Just checked Red Sox schedule. They are only home until 6/29 then away until mid-July.

Where on Cape Cod is Seacrest?

Gene May 29th, 2003 07:20 PM

The Seacrest is in North Falmouth on the West shore of Buzzards Bay. This location has some of the warmest Cape waters but is near the recent Bouchard- tanker oil spill.

Several towns on the Cape have Cape Cod League teams including Bourne, Chatham, and Orleans. The Chatham team was featured in a recent movie about the CC League called "Summer Catch?" starring Jessica Beals? of "Seventh Heaven" TV fame.

"This location has some of the warmest Cape waters but is near the recent Bouchard- tanker oil spill."
This is true but there is no oil damage to Old Silver Beach (which is right out the door of the Seacrest). Most of the oil was pushed by wind and wave to the other coast of the Bay. Through the hard work of many volunteers those beaches have been cleaned and are opening. We don't want you to think you will be vacationing on an oil slick now do we?

To: AGM - Glad to hear that the Seacrest Hotel area was not affected and that the other shores are being cleaned up. All of us on CC are very grateful for the hard work and effort of the volunteers.

I am trying to find a hotel and we wanted to stay at the Seacrest but it full for our dates. Is anyone familiar with Beach Breeze Inn or have other recommendations? THanks

Beach Breeze Inn is on route 28 in Harwich. Not on the water like the Seacrest but a lot more central to all of the attractions of Cape Cod.
