What are the "must" restaurants on the Cape? Some of your favorites. Not to be missed.

Chillingsworth

I really like the Cape Sea Grill in Harwichport. Also the Red Pheasant in Dennis.

Bleu in Mashpee Commons is wonderful. The chef/owner is from France.

I think the biggest "must" is a search of guidebooks, this website, and the Chowhound site for ideas.

What are you looking for? Fine dining, lobster shack, casual seafood? The Cape has all kinds of dining. Where will you be located?

And I agree with bachslunch to check Chowhound for the Cape when the season starts since some restaurants change every year.

Lobster Pot - Provincetown

I second Lobster Pot in Provincetown. We also love the Bookstore Restaurant for lunch in Wellfleet, overlooking Mayo Beach.
Also recommend Edwidge (not sure of spelling) in Provincetown; it's pricey but delicious & different if you want something different than typical fried seafood, fries & cole slaw.

Well, I have to admit the Lobster Pot is a "must do". it is a family owned big place that serves great seafood for fair prices, paper placemats - nothing fancy just good food. Beyond Lobster Pot in Provincetown, there are some great restaurants that IMO are not to be missed if you have the time. The Red Inn, Front Street and The Mews are three. You can find info on them easily by googling. In all cases you must have reservations in season!!! Provincetown gets very busy so if you are heading out to the tip of the cape, plan ahead. (and while you are there please take a drive through the National Seashore)

The Cape is a rather large place-suprising many people. If your heading to the Outer Cape, which is the furthest from the canal, there is a new boulangerie in Wellfleet. Opened just two months ago, it has a line out the door- not just on weekends, but during the week-in this, the off season! To die for are the breads, pastries, and this past weekend the croque monsieur. If I'd closed my eyes, I would have thought I was in France! The Bistro will be opening in June. Can't wait to try it.

Favorites- Bucca's in Harwich, L'Allouette in Harwich. Abba's in Orleans, Crown Point and Front St. in Ptown.

If your looking for Lobster- I'll go with Moby Dicks in Wellfleet, or the Lobster Pot in Ptown. Can't go wrong!

Where is the new boulangerie in Wellfleet?

I also recommend Mac's Shack for seafood in Wellfleet.

The P+B boulangierie is on the right of Rt 6 just past the South Wellfleet General Store.

thanks for the recommendation on the boulangierie - I have been driving by every weekend but it has been too late at night - I'll head over there for sure this weekend!!

The white chocolate bread is to die for. And I'd never have tried it, if the gentleman behind me in line hadn't told me about it! Who'd ever heard of white chocolate bread? It does not need butter. Or anything, for that matter. There was a write up in Cape Cod Magazine this month-just a squib, telling about the two Frenchman who own the Boulangerie, and why they decided on Wellfleet. They do not advertise, and I've no idea what will happen in the summer, as the line is out the door on weekends already.

Truro has some great restaurants.
The Cape is such a lovely place to dine from a clam shack to fine dining.

Thanks yellowbyrd and ccshanty for the location of P & B. I know right where that is--maybe there was an ice cream shop there before--but it had been closed for awhile.

cw- it had been a clam shack, for a few years. Not bad, either. They've gutted the inside,one can see the baker baking,and, I understand, when the bistro is open(and it is small), one will be able to see them preparing the food, also.

And I should add that Finely JP's in Wellfleet is one of our favorites. Great fresh food, creatively prepared to order. Price is reasonable...chef owned. Finely JP's (not to be confused with PJ's, a clam shack up the road a piece) will be featured on Chronicle, the TV magazine on ABC TV's local affiliate in Boston. That airs May 17 on Channel 5 at 7:30 pm.
