Cape Cod

Hi. I am planning a 4-day trip to Cape Cod in early July from New York. What is the best way to go there? I was planning to rent a car in NY and drive up but somebody told me that it maybe is too far. Any advice? Thanks.

The best way to get here is in the minds of the traveler. Train is not possible. Plane is very expensive. Bus is long, boring and dull. So car is best but you don't have one and need to rent?

Someone told you that it is too far from NY to CC to rent a car? What does this mean? Does it mean too expensive? That does not seem to jive with your other posts where you talk about renting an expensive, convertible, European car!

Please rephrase your question so we can understand what you need to know!

Hi Gene,

Thanks for your reply. The rental car is not a problem but one of my friends told me that the distance between Manhattan and Cape Cod is perhaps too far. What do you think?

The trip from NY to Cape Cod is a 4-5 hour drive (depending on your speed) at best. Traffic is what can extend that time. Try to avoid traveling at peak times-Friday afternoon or Saturday mornings to the Cape; Sunday afternoon off the Cape. If the early July time you refer to includes 4th of July, weekend traffic will be very heavy since the Cape is a favorite destination for this holiday. If the length of the driving is an issue what about taking the train to Providence and picking up a rental car there. You could also fly into Hyannis and rent a car there though as Gene mentioned it is very expensive.

The distance between NY and the Cape isnt too bad - its the traffic. The straightest route is taking 95 to Providence. The problem is that in the summer 95 is impossible from the New York Border to Madison/Guilford in Connecticut. If you can get any closer to the Cape and then drive that would be better.
