Yeah, me too. Only been through seaside and I just remember the comment we both had - anyway, oregon coast is beautiful I stayed at Schooner's cove and it's a good price, nice room, vaulted ceilings, fireplace, right on the beach. There's also a jacuzzi that you can book for free at 30 min interval - sp private but has ocean views. One side of inn is the beach, the other is the town, very walking distance.

Nah Scarlett, that's what's so cool about the Oregon Coast-Along the way from Astoria to Brookings, you've got Working towns, Glitzy towns, Seedy towns, Hidden towns, Arty towns...
Did that cover it?
For my wife and I, we took off after we got married and drove til we saw something that felt right. That was Yachats for us... and still is. We love it.

bbqboy, as soon as I have mastered the pronunciation of your town, I will be there :)

We should have gone today, it is soooo beautiful today!

[-X One person's "seedy" could be another's "yummy".

It's what makes the world go round! :)>-

Deblynn - We have also stayed at the Tolovana Inn. Last time we stayed at a very small rustic place - Grey Whale Inn on Kinai Street, south of the Tolovana, but right on the beach. This year I'm researching for something in September after the summer rush. I also recall the Surfview Resort back in the early 80's and then big money changed it to the Hallmark. Oh well nothing stays the same.

We enjoy both places very much. We have a beach cottage in Seaside, and Cannon is about ten minutes away. You can easily see both places in one day. Seaside has the nice prom for walking along the ocean and the views of Tillamook Head are very pretty. :)

There is also an outlet mall for shopping with lots of great shops and the Wine Haus for wine tasting. Cannon Beach has Sandpiper Square with a couple of boutiques and and some tourist shops. We will be back on the coast in a few weeks for the summer! ***kim*** ((*))

kimamom, on another forum you mentioned the rental you have in Astoria. Does this mean you have rentals in both towns? And does this mean you rent them or you own them and they are for rent?

Curious, as a Portland local, how a Californian manages homes in Oregon.
Although I don't blame you at all for wishing you lived here :D It is pretty nice!

I lived many years in Seaside and worked in Cannon Beach. They both definitely have their advantages and disadvantages. As other posts mentioned, Seaside is a younger crowd with a "carnival" atmoshphere. Cannon Beach is a more older crowd. Myself, I would stay in Cannon Beach. Treat yourself to a trip out to Indian Beach at the foot of Tillamook Head...or better yet, take the 6 mile hike over the top from Cannon Beach to Seaside. The views of the ocean are breathtaking.

Cannon Beach has it all and appeals to couples of all ages, including those with young children. We like to stay at Schooner's Cove, which has great ocean views out the front door and restaurants and shopping out the back door.

Astoria is a colorful, historic town on the upswing.

Seaside is an older "resort" that has seen better days. If you've been going there since you can remember, you'd probably like it still.
