Cannon Beach and Corvallis Restaurants

We will be in Cannon Beach and Corvallis next week. Where, in these towns, can be find a healthy dinner at a restaurant with entrees mostly under $20?

We like a place where we can relax with a bottle of wine and that features seafood (or Thai, Chinese, Korean, or Japanese food).

We wanted to eat at the Gower Street Bistro in Cannon Beach, but when I called to make a reservation, I got the message that the restaurant has closed and will be reopening with a new format in February. We do not want to drive to Seaside.

I would opt for the Wayfarer right next door to Gower St. Bistro. Good food, healthy options, and nice views.

For Corvallis, our must stop is always Woodstocks Pizza. I know you asked for healthy, but you can do a veggie one or something.

Oops, posted too soon. I realize that Woodstocks may not be what you had in mind for atmosphere, but I thought I would toss out the suggestion. You can drink your way around the world there at Suds n Suds though;)

Thanks.

We used to always eat at the Wayfarer, but the last time we were there we were seated next to a family so noisy that we walked out and went to the nearby Gower Street Bistro--which was excellent. Maybe we'll give the Wayfarer another try.

Yeah, Gower Street Bistro was wonderful...
I read that the Cannon Beach hotel is opening something in the Gower St Bistro space.. in the spring.

HTTY--We have eaten at the Wayfarer a number of times and it has always been pleasant. So I hope your experience was a fluke. If you try it again, let us know how it goes. BTW, I thought of another place in Corvallis...Marzini's. I think it is more what you are looking for.

New China Buffet (in Corvallis)

We really like Newman's @ 988, it is a small, intimate venue with fantastic food and service. Really yummy Pot de Creme here which I see is back on their menu again. Bistro in downtown Cannon Beach is also very good, love their Greek Lemon Soup here. Have fun! ***kim*** ((#))

Newmans is nice, but it is not in the price range HTTY mentioned.

I'm kinda with you, happytrails; with Gower St. Bistro now closed, not sure where to go. As was said, Newman's doesn't fit the bill cost-wise, and though I like it, it's hard to get excited about Wayfarer's. There are a couple newer places in town I haven't tried yet. If you find one you like, please report back.

Off the wall suggestion: maybe not this visit, but one of these times, book a "class" at EVOO, the small cooking school/kitchen shop in town. The chef/instructor there might be the best around.

We ended up at the Wayfarer, which was great. The crowd was small, so we got great attention from our waiter.

I had the Pacific snapper, which they do beautifully, and served with fresh vegetables-- lovely green beans and butternut squash.

It turns out we didn't go to Corvallis. Instead, we went to Newport, where the temperature his 63 F. on Thursday.

Glad you enjoyed it:) Yeah, it was warmer on the coast than over here the other day, by about 20 degrees. Never mind your Newport weather would have been a good day even in the summer.

We've always had both excellent food and service at Wayfarer. They do sometimes have large family groups in there that could be a little loud. A trick for that - ask to sit in the booths at the back of the restaurant. You may think you won't have a great view, but it's actually wonderful. It's elevated up a step, and the view is terrific.

Another place we have had good meals is Warren House - on the south end of town across from Tolovana. It's small and doesn't good food, at reasonable prices. I believe most entrees are under $20.00.

I didn't know about Warren House. I'll check it out the next time I'm in Cannon Beach. Thank you.

Those booths at Wayfarer are nice, out last meal in Sept. was in the bar area, pretty views from there, also. ***kim*** ((#))
