Candlelight Vigil 9/11/02
To all people located in North America could we please try to make an effort to go outside on 9/11/02 at 8 pm and light a candle. we did this the week of 9/11 last year and it was a moving symbol to all who lost their lives. Please pass this along to all you care about and we can move this across the country

Sandra, very nice idea. I hope everyone will light a candle. Thanks, Lori
|
Also, drive with your lights on during the day.
|
why 8pm?
The attacks were in the morning. And who is "we"?
|
Candlelight doesn't show up in the middle of the day. Plus most people will be at home at 8 pm tomorrow evening. I think it's a nice gesture of memorial.
|
If you're going to do the candle vigil, it would make more of a statement if it was done at the same time across the continental U.S. (Sorry, Alaska & Hawaii.) 11:00 PM EDT 10:00 PM CDT 9:00 PM MDT and 8:00 PM PDT.
|
I won't be home tomorrow night. I have a night class.

How can you assume that most people will be at home?
|
Many classes and meetings have been cancelled in my area, so that people can be home with their families or at church services.
|
I htink that these little "why don't we do something to commemorate" rituals are a nice thought but best left to individuals.
Tomorrow , here in NYC, we will have a moment of silence when the first plane hit, then my family and I are going to church. Everyone else should do whatever they want.
At night all the candles will be lit here, wherever you are, do what ever makes you feel best about remembering the dead and their families..
|
NYer - you hit the nail on the head! Do whatever you want to do - light a candle, say a prayer, fly the flag or salute a picture of Osama with your middle finger.

A lovely idea........hopefully the hurricane won't put out the candles on my front yard.....but in solidarity I will try. Best wishes to all of you out there.

Count me in!

You know what I've thought -- is that one year ago there was a massive show of people giving blood. Nothing symbolizes life quite like a bag of blood. I will feel more "connected" tomorrow giving blood than lighting a candle or flipping on the headlights. But, mostly I guess, I agree with others about doing your own thing -- whatever makes you feel
better/connected/calmed/useful/...
