Cancun and cell phones

Does anyone know if there is acceptable reception for cell phones in Cancun. I will be leaving for my vacation soon and was wondering if bringing my cell phone is worth it (too keep tabs on things at home)?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Just be careful. There is a lot of cell phone cloning that goes on in Mexico as they have a largely analog system.

A friend's cell phone was cloned while she was in Mexico, and oh my goodness the trouble that caused her.

You might consider getting one of the prepaid calling cards from Costco.

We were in Playa Del Carmen last year and the cell phones worked fine. We did need to dial an access code to call the states. Took awhile to find someone who knew the code.
